Forgot about that change. Who knows maybe it helps us get guys too. The door swings both ways.McKinney wrote: Wed Oct 17, 2018 8:25 pmUh, not anymore they don't.minutefanjsf wrote: Wed Oct 17, 2018 8:21 pmThe roster will not be obliterated. That was one of the many Molnar mistakes. Kids can’t just leave on their own. They need releases. It is not as hard of sell as you’d think. There is a history for this program, that even though was an FCS history, shows a strong tradition. It’s an elite public flagship University on the rise, too.gosox22 wrote: Wed Oct 17, 2018 12:00 pm This is going to be an incredibly tough sell to any head coaching candidates. The roster is going to be obliterated in all likelihood, we're living in the land of independent purgatory and our average attendance is abysmal and has been since the Kevin Morris era. Bamford will really earn his paycheck if he nails this hire. I have a lot of faith in Ryan, but there are a lot of factors working against us.https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/n ... 698734002/Transfers may now leave without asking their current school for permission. Under this new “notification-of-transfer” model, student-athletes will have their names entered into a national database, and coaches from other programs can then reach out to gauge interest.

No! Do not need that "turnover chain" BS here...McKinney wrote: Sat Oct 13, 2018 9:20 pm Generally I'd prefer an FCS head coach, but any thoughts on Miami's DC Manny Diaz?

Re: Head coaching options
How about if we offer the entire UMaine staff a 33% raise across the board and be done with it.
Re: Head coaching options
ANYONE BUT WHIPPLE RYAN PLEASE GET RID OF THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Head coaching options
At this point I'd be thrilled if Whipple didn't make it back to the locker room with a job.

This is just another lost season. It doesn’t matter if he’s fired now or after the season.

Re: Head coaching options
As this season is drawing to a close and we wait to see what RB will do, a name to keep an eye on for those of the mindset RB will lean on his Georgia Tech connections for a new FB coach.
Brian Bohannon the HC at Kennesaw State, where former UMass football player Vaugh Williams was AD and hired
Bohannon. He has worked under Paul Johnson at Georgia Southern, Navy and Georgia Tech. From what I’ve read Bohannon is reported to be an excellent recruiter and a master of the spread option offense. I for one wouldn’t mind seeing a different offense than what we have seen since moving to FBS, I’ve watched Army quite a bit this season and think some form of the option would be a good look for UMass in the Northeast.
A point of interest, Bohannon is the first football coach for Kennesaw St. and in their 4th year he has built from scratch the #2 ranked team in FCS and what I find most interesting is they haven’t had a losing season in those four years.

^^
Obviously Kennesaw State is FCS, not FBS, but I agree with you that this is exactly the kind of coaching candidate UMass should be looking at, and with his pedigree I can't imagine he's not on Ryan's radar.

Yeah, up a little late last night Kennesaw is FCS in the Big South Conference. Fixed it.
Re: Head coaching options
We need a defense minded coach. I hate to say this but the BC approach is what we need. BC took on #2 Clemson with a stout D but for their QB going down that game would have been much closer. We need a defense to set up our offense that is NE football and it is what it is!

^ Some qualities I'd like to see:
Culture-first. #NewMass, #Connected. Programs where everyone lives the values. For example: unselfishness, communication, disciplined confidence.
High talent utilization/development. We're not in a traditional recruiting area and we can't expect to be recruiting classes in the top half of FBS. However, they can get rosters with high-FCS/low-FBS talent plus a couple of stars (like they have been doing, roughly let's say #100 in the country). If they effectively develop and scheme to their player's skills, we'll be in a good position.
Balanced Team. I don't want to see a team with a Top 30 offense and a Bottom 30 defense. The candidate should have focus on controlling the game and have confidence in their offensive, defensive, and special teams coordinators.
Control over time of possession. Limit your opponent's time and you can shut down even the most explosive offenses in the country. This could be done with a slower offense with few turnovers or sacks allowed and/or a dominant defense with lots of forced turnovers and TFLs. Controlling possession also could mean limiting penalties on both sides of the ball.
Look at all the terrible 3rd and 4th quarters we've seen over the past few seasons. The defense doesn't have the stamina to be out there for more than half the game and the offense usually can't get things to click (also could be a stamina issue).
Adjustments. Again with the 3rd quarter collapse. I'd like to see a candidate who's run a program that consistently performs all four quarters or at least doesn't have a second-half collapse. Whipple has even publically stated he has the mindset of going in and sticking with his gameplan.

I think I will let the AD decide what kind of coach he wants to hire.

^Lets shut down the board then if we're not allowed to give opinions, speculate or give thoughts. Or do we have to go to a Rams game to have input?
