Asses in seats
Re: Asses in seats
^ They had the same rules last year. They didn't ask for ID last year so if one of the others in your group attends have them give your name.
Re: Asses in seats
^ Does the person picking up the gift on behalf of the absent SAH get to keep the gift?
I'm interested in knowing how other STHs and SAHs feel about this practice?

In regards to actually getting it, I'm not really bothered by it. If I get one, great. If I'm not there to get one, oh well.
With that said, I find it interested that they only do one per account. It makes sense if you only have two tickets, but some people have 4 tickets or more. These one gift per account situations assume that each account is a family and/or one household. I have 5 football tickets, and none of us are family nor do any of us live together. I don't expect 5 gifts, but I know each of the other people that split them with me would have liked one too.
Considering how small our season ticket holder base is in each sport, it's just a bit head scratching that they can only do one of these small gifts per account.

They should mail them with a nice thank you letter personally signed by the coach/AD.

Re: Asses in seats
Just my two cents...if a SAH is buying 2+ tickets for him/her self, one gift per account makes sense. If each ST purchased represents a separate individual, then each person should be acknowledged as a STH and get a gift. The ticket office could ask that for that info when tickets are purchased/renewed. Whether they mail them or distribute them at games, they should do what they can to ensure that each STH gets their gift.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 8:44 amIn regards to actually getting it, I'm not really bothered by it. Eh, it doesn't quite work like that. The department would say "well those separate people can just become STH on their own," which would benefit the department by being able to say they now have more STH. If they push that, my friends, for example, won't bother with it. They go through me because it's easier for them to just write me a check and have me deal with everything than doing it on their own (this goes back to our fan/alumni base being generally apathetic and shitty... no need to get into that here). If the department did what you say, they'd just be inflating their own numbers for no purpose in the long run since the accounts and likely contact info are still driven through the account holder.
I agree with your premise, I do, I just don't see it working. I think the simple solution is that if you have 2 tickets, 1 gift. 4 tickets, 2 gifts. Something along those lines. I mean, we're talking about a mug (or a blanket for football this past season)...

Thank you. Even worse is having the game on the Saturday of Super Bowl weekend. At least it's not on a midweek game but come on. Oh well, I guess I'll have to buy back my STH "gift" in the school store for $20.AlPatino wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 8:55 am They should mail them with a nice thank you letter personally signed by the coach/AD.

Hello!UMass02 wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2018 5:51 pm Mullins management blames Athletics. Administrators in the Athletic Department blame Mullins management. Someone is lying. Considering Mullins is operated by a subsidiary of Comcast, I suspect Mullins management is lying.
I agree that the back and forth is crazy on who is at fault. I dont totally agree with it either. We as ushers and ticket takers get wanded just like all of the patrons. But you have to realize that this is the world we live in now. Especially after Vegas, The university community as a whole is commited to the safety of everyone who attends these events. I have heard rumblings that the mullins is working on getting more metal detectors to eliminate the wanding procedure, and speed up getting people into the arena. I cant be sure when these will be installed, or exactly how many they are getting. Also, people should know by now, that there is a security procedure and showing up at tip off/faceoff, will more than likely cause them to wait to get in.
I feel like the blame is mutual, sure Mullins mgmt could be more proactive with things, however they are limited to what umass athletics will allow them to do. This is just the first year of this procedure, It has already improved since the beginning of the year. I'm sure things will get better once the process has more time to iron itself out and get more feedback from the community.

The Mullins Center has had AT LEAST 17 years to get this right. This "world we live in" has been around since at least September 11th, 2001. They've had ample time to sit down and look at how almost everyone else is doing it and to be able to get it right, right off the bat. Nope. Vegas happened, someone in management lost their shit, and they rushed it through rather than taking a deep breath and doing it right.
Case in point? Here you go:
https://twitter.com/MullinsCenter/statu ... 0798177281Hi Brian! That unit is only a demo unit. We are STILL waiting on final building code stuff from building authorities and will make our purchase of 10 new ones as soon as it clears! Go UMass!
They knew they had to get building code "stuff" approved yet they still went through with it. Ridiculous.

Re: Asses in seats
The good news (actually sad news) is that with 2,000 fans there really isn't an issue with getting through the line. Let's hope they get it fixed for next year's crowds of 5,000.
Re: Asses in seats
The seats need new asses, plain and simple. The current fan base is getting long in the tooth, or toothless, and many are no longer in the area.

Re: Asses in seats
My guessing that when the mullins was being built, they never assumed they would need them, hense the building code stuff? Amherst has been in a bubble for as long as i can remember. The world changed, but amherst never seemed too. I wonder if they have to get approval due to the metal detectors causing a bottleneck effect in the event of an emergency and people are rushing the north entrance. God forbid, they use one of the other 20 doors. lolInnervisionsUMASS wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 1:17 pmMr.Stopherson wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:40 pmHello!UMass02 wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2018 5:51 pm Mullins management blames Athletics. Re: Asses in seats

It doesn't matter what it is. It matters that this is just another thing that was pushed through with little to no thought and is a black mark on the University, whether it is the U's fault or if it's the private Mullins management's fault.
EDIT: I'm not going to take out my term "black mark", but I do realize that's a bit much in this case.... a little hyperbole, if you will.

It’s less about the actual gift and more about the lack of a customer service mindset. They need to treat STHs like they value their/our loyalty and support...so a small number doesn’t get smaller.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 10:04 amEh, it doesn't quite work like that. This is customer service 101. If you treat your customers badly, how long before they become somebody else’s customers?
