Asses in seats
Besides the obvious (winning) how can UMass figure out a way to get more "asses in seats" for basketball/hockey football? A buddy of mine works at the Mullins Center asked me this question....so I will ask it to all of you!

Winning is the only answer...and winning consistently.
Bamford has erased McCutcheon
Re: Asses in seats
He needs to get students to games. Right now it feels like a lot of support from locals but not as much from students. Plus more students just makes it a better atmosphere. I think there are ways to motivate students other than winning... student giveaways or the like
Re: Asses in seats
Aside from winning, teams need to have an identity, like a defensively strong team, or a hard hitting team, or uptempo team. Something that separates them from other teams

Re: Asses in seats
I think Matt McCall deserves the benefit of the doubt. I expected more than 3800+ people at the game against Lowell. I have one season ticket plan plus I bought 2 of the mini 3 game deals. A change at head coach was needed badly, let's try to give the players/coaches what they deserve...support! Try spreading the word around to friends, family, alumni, and students. Any interest is good interest!

Re: Asses in seats
I would have bought the $75 Parquet Pass again this year but now it is $200. Alumni should be able to get $10 walk up tickets. $80 for a family of 4 is way too much. Lower the prices, some local craft beer selections on tap and rip out the plastic seats on the team benchs side of Mullins. Those are back breakers. Install padded seats all around.

Get students engaged...goes without saying.
It’ll take time, but like others have said, build a rep for winning consistently against quality opposition.
Get local TV stations to show highlights of games played during their local news broadcasts.
Given that so many games are played around dinner/lunch times, improve the quality of the food at the Mullins Center, especially since UMass ranks high with regard to the quality of the food served on campus.
There were two games last night. Most stands didn’t open til 6.
I tried to order a hot dog at like 5:45 and was asked if I minded waiting 5 minutes because the hot dogs weren’t ready yet. Ridiculous...

Re: Asses in seats
When my son worked in the athletic office from 2000 to 2004 he would be up in the hall just past the entrance to the store and be handing out tickets to the games. Don't do that anymore. Need to do it again because it increases visibility that there is a ball game on such and such a date.
Re: Asses in seats
I was there last night and it seemed like we were watching a team made up of anonymous players. Winning will help, but until we are back in the top 25, we will need a player who gets people excited in order to fill the place. . I know Julius and Camby aren't coming back next season, so hope one of the new guys or Mt H. can emerge as that guy who makes the casual fan want to be in the Bill at game time.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Just have the campus turn off WiFi service about an hour before games. Have signs printed that promise internet service at the Mullen’s and once they come out of their initial stupor, the students may wander that way like a zombie apocalypse.

I'm sure there were a lot of people salivating watching those waitresses strut around with trays of beer. I could have used a few

Family Packs of tix for affordability and throw in a food option to keep it affordable for families.
Have live music on the concourse with face painting for kids. Carnival atmosphere making it fun for families.
Postgame concert for students featuring local bands the students enjoy.
Improve the food selection.
All these could also be done at McGuirk too.

This. 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 cokes for $50. Also engage alumni more, reach out to them with discounted ticket offers to entice them to get back to campus for a game.wmmmfan wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2017 10:59 pm Family Packs of tix for affordability and throw in a food option to keep it affordable for families.
