Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
Steve Alford just gave up the extension on his contract he was given at the end of last year based upon this year's subpar performance. I wonder if our coach, who's allegiance to UMass is unquestioned will follow in kind.
Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
A nice gesture but kind of hollow. Extension was for the 20-21 season. With the recruits he has coming in I am sure he can get that year back.
Now if DK were to waive his buy out, now that would be something.

Raise the bar, do the minimum.

Maybe Adam Laroche can talk to him about that?MajBugman wrote: Now if DK were to waive his buy out, now that would be something.

Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
^ Alford's original 7-year contract is worth $18M and runs through the 2019-20 season. Giving up his 1 year extension is largely meaningless.
Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
Maybe Obama and or Hiliary/Bernie will help you people out on this matter, since Trump is kicking ass

I wouldn't call $2.5 million meaningless

Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
It's interesting to watch how Bamford conducts the hockey HC search. He didn't hire a search firm, which I think is 100% the right call. But I'm getting the impression that UMass hockey fans aren't blown away by the candidates that seem to be in play.
Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
^ Much better candidates than we had last time and the team is in much worse shape.
Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
^ So much for what I said before, they hired someone unexpected. Based on what I'm reading in the Twittersphere it sounds like Greg Carvel is a fantastic hire.
Someone with more understanding of the hockey landscape can correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like UMass got the basketball equivalent of a young up and coming coach with several successful years of HC experience at a mid-major. If Bamford is ever in the position where he's looking to hire a new basketball HC I think this might be an indication of the type of candidate he's likely to pursue... and I like it.
Edited to appease critics.

He is already very much in the position, but he has indicated that replacing DK is not on his radar.NilesGold wrote:^If Bamford is ever in the position to hire a new basketball HC...
