^ Well rayers, I don't think I'll be responding to your lovely post.
MajBugman, I know your post was meant in jest, but at the core of your post there is definitely criticism that can be heaped on DK for failing to give UMass any consistent semblance of a respectable frontcourt this season. The hope is that with the development of Holloway and the addition of Baldwin/Gresham (fingers crossed) it will be improved next year. I don't think a different assistant coach or head coach would've made much different in the outcome of tonight's game, UMass was over-matched against a good VCU team that wanted revenge.

My point is we can't separate recruiting and coaching. It's all on DK. He is the coach, GM and president of basketball operations. If the team composition is such that they have trouble against every team that has an inside presence, that is on him. Remember, not too long ago, we were all on this board wondering how many guards and tweeners DK was going to recruit? Well, this is what it wrought.
Yes, DK is bringing in a great class next year. I am excited to see them play and next year should be fun. It is up to DK to consistently bring in talent so the team can compete in the A-10 year in a year out. With UMass being a great school, in a great location, with great facilities he should be able to do quite well in department. We have had two bad years in a row because he hadn't recruited a D-1 caliber point guard. Trey ran point last year and Hinds and Davis are tied for the team lead with 3 assists/game this year.
I want DK to be the coach here for the next 20 years IF HE DESERVES IT. However: If the only members on the team with real talent are underclassmen, that is on DK. If a bunch of the new guys are partial non-qualifiers that is on DK. If any of these men show up next year out of shape, that is on DK. If the new class is not the real deal, that is on DK. If the style the team plays doesn't match the type of players he has, that is on DK.

Niles, who recruited and coached our team to a 10th place finish and a bad loss to VCU in the A10 Tournament? This was Derek's 8th season. This was HIS TEAM! He recruited and coached these players to 10th place!NilesGold wrote:^ Tonight I saw UMass lose to a team with a much more athletic frontcourt that had rim protectors and on the other end had little fear of being blocked at the rim by UMass. There wasn't much an different HC or AC could've done to change that.
St. Louis U. fired Jim Crews after 4 season over which he compiled a 77 and 56 record, including two A-10 league titles, one A-10 Tournament Championship and 2 NCAA Tournament runs. Granted he inherited his NCAA teams, but when he had the horses (players) he got got results.
Derek hasn't performed nearly as well as Crews yet we're told he as at least two more years on his contract. Most members on this forum would have an organism if a DK team finished in the top 4 of the AQ10. Parish the thought!!

I agree and I've spoken at length on here about how the 2016 class should be far better than the last several years classes have been and it should start to address a lot of the issues UMass teams have had the last two years.MajBugman wrote: I want DK to be the coach here for the next 20 years IF HE DESERVES IT. Crews last 2 seasons are worse than any season DK has had. Both seasons consisted of 11 wins.baseline47 wrote:Niles, who recruited and coached our team to a 10th place finish and a bad loss to VCU in the A10 Tournament? This was Derek's 8th season. It also appears they St Louis has one commit with 0 stars and the previous class they had 3 commits (1 3star, 1 2star, and 1 0star)
Also, LOVE a great organism!

You are correct, DK wins that dubious battle at the wire. He had two 12 win seasons!Tman1319 wrote: Crews last 2 seasons are worse than any season DK has had. Both seasons consisted of 11 wins.

And i'd trade DK for Ollie in a heartbeat.69MG wrote:Eldon, welcome back. I'm pretty much in agreement with your post. My only difference of opinion is on UConn's recruiting. This is your quote:
UConn's 2016 recruiting class makes ours look second class. #5 on 247Sports. However, I'm still thrilled with our incoming 7.Uconn is treading in interesting waters too. High profile recruits are not knocking on their door like they were even 3 years ago and they are slipping backwards as a result

You mean the complete program evaluation promised at the end of the 2014-2015 season? I don't remember DK talking about any other big change.uz2b-len wrote:Maybe this is all DK needs to make that big change he talks about

^ I think he means that DK should read the newsletters and learn what an actual offense and defense looks like.
