MAC-tion 2014
Re: MAC-tion 2014
Buffalo has fired Jeff Quinn. Boy losing to EMU really is a bad thing.
Go UMass!

Re: MAC-tion 2014
Shocked by that firing. Get your two best players drafted into the NFL and then fired the next year.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)

^Agreed, that's a pretty questionable fire in my opinion. Unless there's more going on behind the scenes that we don't know. Otherwise that's a quick hook which I would think would be a concern to possible candidates.

Re: MAC-tion 2014
The Quinn firing could be one of two things.
First, their AD Danny White has been all about making big splashes since taking over in 2012. He fired their longtime basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon very early in his tenure so he could replace him with Bobby Hurley. He may have wanted to get rid of Quinn for sometime to replace him with "his guy" however, how do you fire a coach after he goes 8-5 and makes a bowl game. Given how bad Eastern Michigan is generally perceived, he may have seen this as the perfect opportunity.
Second, it is quite possible that Quinn had the same reputation at Buffalo as Molnar had here and that many who are close with the program were looking to get rid of him. Here is a post on twitter from Gio Ozkan who was an OL for Buffalo who graduated last year and played under Quinn:
"I couldn't be happier for UB! Playing for a man like that made me hate football."

Pretty strong stuff. Just seems really strange that they would fire Quinn after signing him to an extension through 2017. However, much like the Molnar firing I am sure that some wealthy alums are paying for his buyout.

So this is how we can still make it to the MAC Championship game this year. With a lot of help.

1) Bowling Green has to win no more than one of their next four. That includes a matchup on November 12th against Kent State, so let's be honest and say that the Falcons have to lose to Akron, Toledo and Ball State.
2) Akron, per above, has to beat Bowling Green. The Minutemen need to beat the Zips. The other two matchups don't matter as even if Akron goes 5-3, UMass will hold the tiebreaker.
3) The winner of the Miami - Ohio game on November 25th, the last game of the season for each team, cannot win out.
4) UMass has to win out

It's okay if we don't make it this year...I expect to win the MAC championship next year.njumass08 wrote:So this is how we can still make it to the MAC Championship game this year. With a lot of help.

Re: MAC-tion 2014
If we can get some more help on defense (5th year transfers, maybe?), UMass absolutely should be a contender to win the MAC next year. That would be a nice going-away present.
Re: MAC-tion 2014
Would also like to think winning (or even competing for the title) the MAC would add some, albeit minor, luster to our name when looking for a conference. Of course, by this time next year who knows what the conference landscape will look like.

Unfortunately I bet it looks pretty much the same as it does today...MJatUM wrote:Would also like to think winning (or even competing for the title) the MAC would add some, albeit minor, luster to our name when looking for a conference. IF Bowling Green looses to Akron & Toledo (or another combination with 2 losses) Akron looses to UMass and 4 teams tie at 5-3 what happens?

Miami lost today 41-10 to WMU, so we have that going for us.njumass08 wrote:So this is how we can still make it to the MAC Championship game this year. With a lot of help.

Re: MAC-tion 2014
It blows my mind to even be having a conversation like this regarding a 2-7 team in November.
