Kdogg- Thanks for raising the topic about something other than bashing Coach. I equally frustrated with the decision to retain him, but it's a done deal! Have you seen this on this write-up on Al-Kaleem at espn? It would seem from this write-up with some work on his shot selection he will be hitting 40% of his 3's. It also sounds like he needs to work some on D. If he transfers here will he take up one of the scholarships we have coming next year?

Does he play the point or off guard? If he transfers he needs to red shirt next year right? so he would be there to take over for AA the following year if he is a 1 guard.
Nope

I saw Al-Kaleem play a few times in the Hoophall tournament in Springfield. He was one hell of a player. Great shooter, but like someone said before, you could tell he wouldn't make it at Florida as a good player. Matt Walsh, his teamate, was in the same tournament, and he on the other hand you could tell would make it at Florida. Had all the talent in the world, with great size, and most importantly, hustle. On the Barbee note, I don't know about it being a done deal at one point, but I do know Coach Cal was seriously pushing Barbee for the job that week.

I think that if he has used up two years at a D1 school and transfers to another, he has to sit out a year and only have one year of eligiblity left.

He's a 2 guard. My brother has season tickets to Florida and he's the one that told me about him and Umass. I saw a few games when I was down there. He wasn't much of a dribbler and mostly just shot threes when he was in.

He'd have two years I think...you can have four years to play with one year sitting out that doesnt count against eligibility.

You're right...Players have 5 years in which to complete 4 years of play....

Correct. Just look at Cox for the example. He played two years for UConn, transferred here, sat out one year, played one year and would have been able to play this year had it not been for whatever went on with him.

If this were to happen, when would his scholarship count...the year AFTER he sat out...2005/6 :?:

Your post was about a rumor. Another rumor was posted. So it goes.

We've been told that taking transfers is the wrong way to do things, so I don't think this will happen.

Cox had badly arthritic knees.

How come we never saw Cox on the bench the entire year (after the 1 exhibition game that he played) or at Seniod Day. He should have been honored at Senior Day.

Marcus decided to leave the team rather than go through the pain he would have to endure playing. That is all there was to the story. He decided he did not want the daily grind, so that is why he was not on the bench. This was widely reported by both Matty V. and the Union News early in the year.
