Add Hampshire, Holyoke and Smith to that also. Plus I'm pretty sure they wouldn't participate in the "you suck" chant which would be nice.
Yea why don't we let Western Massachusetts in for free while we are at it because they suck and can't seem to fill the place either. The student section had a pretty good year so direct your attacks at somebody else for a change.

On the topic of UMass/Amherst scrimmage, If that had been done this year....the Lord Jeffs would have been absolutely embarrassed! They might be able to win the D3 crown but they would have been destroyed by UMass. Play them in the cage before the start of the season and show everyone why their trophy means nothing in the grand scheme.

There is little doubt in my mind that AC could compete in the lower rungs of Division 1 basketball, this is a team that would challenge in the Ivy League and probably could go out and beat some of the teams like Binghamton, and the Jackson States and such. I know that 3 years ago we would go over to AC and scrimmage against the team over there and they would always be competitive games and it was great to compete against players other than those that they have practiced against every day. All in all i agree that it would be great to promote a game between the two schools, and why not do something like have it in their gym, make it a charity event where we dont need tickets, those who enter give up 5 bucks and it goes to a charity that both schools agree on. I know Dave Hixon knew Jack very very well and Im sure we could agree with them on putting it toward the Leaman Fund.
The Ivys are low D1, and have teriffic academics, so I'm assuming that these kids would take an Ivy offer over Amherst. We beat Dartmouth by 37, so I think its pretty fair to say we would have handled Amherst pretty easily.

Anybody think we'd lose by 10+ to anybody in the elite eight in Springfield this weekend?

Anybody forgetting our 30 turnover Yale game? We would not blow Amherst out next year since the biggest difference between d1 and d3 is the size and we are losing our best big men. Amherst's center is 6'10" and got nice D1 looks, but presumably didn't want to be owned by a medicore D1 University where he'd get less playing time. Think about it, wouldn't you rather play at Amherst than at St. Bonnie?

the difference of playing for an Ivy and Amherst, is you commit yourself to the regimen that is division 1 basketball, many kids would rather just go to school and enjoy the time they have to themselves

i'd rather play at umass and beat both... and if he was good enough, he wouldn't have had to make the choice
Let's be realistic here. Amherst College provides a better educational experience than UMass. If you made the argument with Stanford/Duke, that's one thing. But the reason the kid would go to Amherst over UMass is academic, not athletic.

Did you see the front lines for those teams. Most of them had centers who were about 6'6". They'd have a tough time matching up against Ray and Stephane :D

yeah you're right, i see absolutely no reason why someone would want something for free, when they can pay $120,000 and be saddled for life with student debt for something slightly better
Not to be rude and very happy that I chose UMass, but I'm guessing that with an Amherst degree, 120K of debt goes away pretty fast....

In the 'grand scheme' of things winning their national championship means as much as winning any other national sports championship.
With that additude do/did you also believe UMASS's D1A foottball championship meant nothing?
Does your logic mean that the NCCA basketball championship is meaningless because that team couldn't beat the NBA champions?

As for the payng $ when you can play for free argument. D3 schools don't have athletic scholarships but they do have academic scholarships and financial aid. My guess would be none of the Amherst players pay full price for their Amherst education.

Ktabz, you're killing me. If you think for one sweet second that an Amherst degree (along with the networking contacts that matriculating there provides) isn't worth a TON more than any of the schools you just named, you've completely lost your mind.

Lost it.

this post is getting retarded now, everyone seems to be arguing the academics rather than what this thread is about... ATHLETICS- BASKETBALL

I for one am positive that if we played amherst college, we would thoroughly wipe the leaman court with them. Chris lowe would run by anyone.

Hell, your amherst boys wouldnt even be able to hold out against our C team, we wouldnt just beat you, but embarrass you, don't think too highly of your d3 team just because your the champs... btw, congrats on that. but don't for one second think you're good enough to compete with a school that is far superior than yourself in athletics.

and don't get too high on u're academic ecstacy either, it's not like there arent D1 schools that have great academics, some even better.

Your doing it again ktabz16 . Try not using your opinions as facts.
The schools you mention all have good academic repuations but none (except maybe Colgate )are on par with Amherst.
Amherst is one of the most selective college in the country.

   Funny post Lunatic. I hope you were being sarcastic or ironic.

What this thread was/is really about is:
Should UMASS schedule Amherst College for an exhibition game.

It was not how badly we would beat them and not who can insult AC the most.
