Game 9: Boston College
Game 9: Boston College
I got tickets for the Umass-BC game down at Conte Forum. How good of a crowd does Umass usually draw to a game down at BC? It is a pretty big rivalry, as far as the state of Massachusetts goes, so I'm sure that there will be a pretty good UMass contingent down there, but considering the crowds at the Mullins Center I really have no clue. Thoughts?
BC plays at Maryland tonight at 7:30, in FSN's ACC Sunday Night game. This is only their 2nd road game of the season. Their other was a 13 point win at Michigan a couple weeks ago.
Their lone loss of the year has been to Providence at Boston Garden, last weekend, 98-89 in OT.
They're 2-0 against the A-10 so far, with a 76-72 home win over Rhody, and Tuesday they whooped St. Louis, 61-39.
So far this season Tyrese Rice (6-1, Jr, G) is leading their scoring, at 21.2 ppg. Shamari Spears (6-6, So, F) is leading the glass with exactly 10 rpg. Tyrelle Blair (6-11, Sr, C) is their Stephane Lasme, with 30 blocks on the season.
A nice thing to see in today's edition of Today in History:
1995: UMass beats Boston College 65-57 in the inaugural Commonwealth Classic.
That was the first of 5 Classics we won, but BC has won the last 8.

Tyrese Rice vs. Chris Lowe is a heck of a point guard matchup. I've realized we aren't going to put up a ton of points vs. teams that play good defense (and no, Syracuse is not one of those), so we need to bring it on defense and do a good job on the boards if we want to win. If we can pull this one off it would give us some huge momentum heading into a homestand full of very winnable games.

Don't think that will work. We'll run, but I don't think our run and gun game will be good enough to beat good teams without playing defense.Chris20 wrote:Don't wait in the rain......umassfan0299 wrote: we need to bring it on defense and do a good job on the boards if we want to win.
I think we need to either force them or hope they voluntarily play a run and gun game, just like Cuse.
Theres a reason why Sedale Jones and Papa Lo were the only freshmen that got any runs in the Marist game (not counting garbage time), while Groebe and Glass sat on the bench, and it wasn't because of offense. I think Ford is going to make it simple, buckle down on D or don't play, and if that means giving Gaffney 35 minutes a game so be it, atleast he gives the effort.
