"Word through the grapevine is that Ford is interested"

The article mentions a concern that since he has no ties to the program or the area, that he would jump ship at the next opportunity of a "bigger" job. If he jumps the UMASS ship after only 2 years for this job, that certainly should be a concern.

Altman back to Creighton

Watch out for Arkansas again, Altman reportedly spurned Arkansas because of academic problems and is back in Nebraska with the Blue Jays.

"For the first time in five years"

Yeah, I can't think about WV basketball without thinking of him. Coaching is much more dynamic now than ever. Where have the John Chaney's and Bob Knight's gone?

blah,blah,blah...yea I'm interested too since my golf partner is moving to W.V. but where is that covered in the media? Seriously, we need a "longevity clause" like Cal has at Memphis!!

Fans on the WVU board desperately want Huggins as their next coach.

If Ford doesn't come out and make a definitive statement, then maybe we should be looking for a new coach now. I don't want to be at the end of the food chain. Well, I suppose the AD is having a conversation about that with TF. I mean, if the guy is looking for another job...well, what happens to employees who are found to be looking for another job? He's a great coach and I have a lot of respect for him, but it's gonna be a huge setback if he leaves now and we have to go coach shopping after every other Tom Dick and Harry University has got their new coach.

Having vented, I also think that TF hasn't proven himself yet to move up to a program with Final Four ambitions/expectations. He's done well with the players, but the recruiting is still a question mark in my mind. The six guys he signed to letters of intent this past November are really not that good. Based on the first hand info we've gotten on this board, they would not form the basis of a good a10 team. The guys he wants to bring on, Lang and Correia, seem better, but it requires pushing out two recruits that are already signed. Not the coolest thing.

So maybe he'll stick around another couple of years to prove that he can recruit and build a program.

Is this definitive enough for you??? This is from an article by Matty from March 20th.
"No. I've just been busy recruiting," Ford said. "It's flattering. It's always good to be wanted. There's no question. It's obviously a reflection on the success that we've had here taking over a program that's struggled a little bit. I don't ever go out and seek jobs."

Because coaches never lie to the media.....

I mean no definitive statement either way is worth squat. We will know soon enough if he has interest anywhere, and if that interest is reciprocated.

these coaches sounded pretty definitive at the time too:

Nick Saban: “I’m just making a rule to never comment on something like that again because every time you comment on it, it just makes for another story. So I’m not going to comment on it five years from now, and I’m not going to comment on it next week...I’m not going to be the Alabama coach.”

Dana Altman: "introduced as Arkansas' new basketball coach on Monday, changed his mind less than 24 hours later and announced on Tuesday night that he is returning to Creighton"

Bill Belichick: resigns as coach of the Jets after one day, only to accept the Patriots offer

you have to take every single thing a coach says with a grain of salt, there are tons of more examples i couldnt think of where they went back on their word. just cause ford says something that doesnt mean that he is 100% honest

You really need to take everything you read, hear, and see with a grain of salt. I shook hands with a college department head, accepting a job offer as an associate professor. The next day, he called me and said he was withdrawing the offer to re-hire the retiring guy I was to replace. "Hey," he said, "he liked your materials and it rejuvenated him and so I owe him the shot to teach another 5 years." My point is that employers as well as employees live by the rule of "enlightened self-interest." Once you accept that as a reality in your world, the best four letter word to use is "next!" You move on. If TF moves on this spring, I will be disappointed but not angry. I will also remember that Lady Karma is bitch who makes house calls. Life ain't fair, but that doesn't mean it isn't good.

Get the new contract with TF signed. If they guy doesn't have enough ethics to stay with a new contract that he just signed for another season, then I honestly wouldn't want him as my coach... anywhere.

"...I just wait till they contact me..."
or maybe, "I have my agent do it for me...."

What I want to hear from our coach is, "I like it here, I've got work to do here, I plan on staying." We're definitely not hearing that. I'd like to see us with a coach who is committed to staying a while.
