2016-17 Starting Lineup

Post by NilesGold » Tue Jun 21, 2016 8:21 am

Curious to hear what others are predicting for UMass' starting lineup in game 1. Assuming Clark and Holloway are a lock to start.

If you asked what I thought the starting lineup will be for game 1 of the conference season, my vote would be different.

I HATE #1 and it has the most votes. Sorry for the rant.

After all the hype, and the recruiting coupe, about Jarreau I would be shocked not to see him start.

Agreed. We have one of the top 20 or so guards from the 2016 class joing a mediocre A10 team, & he's not gonna start from day 1? Seems a little far-fetched

#1 is okay for the first game. Freshman rarely start in their first games unless there is no one else at their position. Even though I think Anderson will start for a while, I think Pipkins and Jarreau will both get more minutes than him pretty soon into the season, if not the first game. This is a guess based on my opinion of Kellogg, not what I think should happen.

^ I agree with you 100% but it I still hate it. I'm hoping the "go with experienced players" last no more than 8-10 games. I then want to see mostly Holloway, Hines (if he's healthy and playing well) Clarke, Pipkins, Lewis and at least 3 freshmen. We have to build for 2017 and it won't happen with major minutes from Anderson, Berger and Coleman.

Len, I agree with you on all points.

I hope Unique cracks the lineup just to stick it in your ear for not including him in a single one of your choices.
This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!

^ Or Hines. I could only put a max of 15 options on there and these seemed like the most likely to me.

One option I forgot to put on there was Jarreau, Berger, Gresham or Baldwin.

I think Jarreau, Pipkins, Coleman is more likely than the one above

I'm okay with choice #1. It doesn't really matter who starts. What matters is playing time and combinations of players on the floor. Who works well together. Who emerges as floor leaders. Who shows that they know the system and can make things happen and gain the coach's and team's confidence. The starters aren't really relevant until someone shows they have to start.

Lord help us if Anderson is that starting PG......

If there is a plan in place that says DJ or Pip will take over at some point after the season starts, then they should be there in game #1.

I will lose my shit all over this board (and it will not be pretty) if Anderson is the starting PG this season for any other reason than Pip and DJ are both injured.

The option I am choosing was not put out there:

Pipkins OR Jarreau, Lewis and Berger (and Baldwin should take over for Berger at some point)

I voted Other: Pipkins/Jarreau, Lewis, Baldwin/Gresham. There is just not enough in CJ's game, so far, to indicate that he should start. To me, a start shows that the coach has confidence in you, and/or that you won the start through competition in practice. If Pip and DJ can't outdo Anderson in practice something is very wrong. Ditto for Baldwin/Gresham vs Berger/Coleman.
