Game 4, 2015-16: Clemson (Vegas tourney) 11/23/15

No line as yet on ESPN or CBS. Sportsline.com has Clemson -6.5. I think we cover. They have easily defeated three creampuffs, all at home. We've defeated two and half creampuffs, not so easily and kind of at home. Go UMass!

Very interested to see how we play tomorrow and handle the size of Clemson. Can we stay out of foul trouble? If Hines and Holloway get in foul trouble, can Berger and Coleman hold down the fort? If they get in foul trouble, do we go zone? Tomorrow might be a good time to show some zone, especially early to keep from getting into that early foul trouble.

I think we will learn a lot about our team after tomorrow's game - will be very interesting how we match up. They have a couple of 6'11 guys who are good for about 17 points and 38 total minutes a game. We've had trouble matching up against big guys so far, and hopefully we can cover them without committing too many fouls. They also have a pair of sharpshooter 3s, who are close to 50% from behind the arc. We will need to come out firing on all pistons to win this one.

Eh, they've got size, but it's middle-lower end Power 5 conference size -- big but not incredibly talented. Sure it's a concern given our lack of depth and experience up front, but these guys aren't Kareem or Wilt. Hoping we don't have to play zone given the struggles we sometimes have with defensive rebounding.

I'm much more concerned with the two forwards they've got than their bigs --- both have pretty good size and are pretty good all around players (I thought the Grantham kid was impressive for a freshman last year in the one Clemson game I watched). Donte is going to matched up with Grantham I bet to start the game, but he doesn't have the size to stay with him for long. So we're going to need a lot of out of Seth and Zach because everyone else on our roster is either too small or too slow to stay with these forwards.

At any rate, Clemson seems like an ok team to me, hard to tell this early in the season. Not sure why anyone would say this is a game we should lose or a game we should win. Either one of those things could easily happen and it's not far fetched to see it going either way.

Just watched the first half of Clemson vs Texas Southern. Their starting big Nnuko looked slow and often cheated out towards the ball leaving the paint open. TS had no one over 6'7 in the rotaion and he had no real presence down low especially on offense. TS got a ton of open looks from 18 and out. If we can shoot at a decent percentage and lockdown blossomgame with coleman or berger I think we can get to the Championship game. Then again, we could play Umass Basketball

^^ I REALLY want this win tonight. Mainly so I don't have to stay up for a midnight start time for game 2. But if we can shoot a decent percentage from 3 I think we have a really good chance to get this one.

I checked out the current game airing on the youtube stream. Excellent stream and am very impressed. Looks like we will be able to see the team play on TV like quality tonight

I'm stoked for this game. I came into the year with no expectations and thought they would win 8-9 games after they needed that comeback against Howard. But when you see a Northern Iowa beat UNC and other A-10 teams starting out so well, you think, why not us? Davidson wasn't picked to do anything last year (albeit with a far better coach), so who knows what this team's ceiling is?

I'm hoping they go into Vegas with confidence from knocking Clemson off two years earlier, H&H play the Clemson big guys to a draw, and our guards take over. Want to see another huge night from Hinds and Clark's best game yet, sealed with some glue plays from Coleman, Anderson, and Berger and sealed by some BBD free throws. If we can win and get Creighton on ESPN2, it will be a big accomplishment for the team. Something like UMass 78, Clemson 76 (paired with a Pats victory) would get Thanksgiving Week off to a tremendous start.
