What's going to happen with the last 2015 scholarship?
What's going to happen with the last 2015 scholarship?
We have 1 remaining scholarship for 2015. It's getting to that time of the year when a decision should be made. Which way do we go?

Get a decent JC kid if one is available.

I say hold onto it. 2016 has a lot of high-end talent and we're in on a lot of good players.

Trade it for a couple good out of bounds plays and more chairs for all the staff on the bench

We need a junior. We have zero. A JUCO transfer makes sense and still leaves us no fewer than 4 scholarships for the class of 2016, of which only one has been used thus far (McLean).
My bet is on a non-qualifier that we first learn about some time in July or August.

This is the most enjoyable losing season ever!

I didn't want to pick any of your options because I don't think they can go wrong as long as they use it on someone good and I think there are good options out there for 2015 and 2016 and a few good grad transfers too. It all depends on who wants to come to UMass though and I have no idea in that regard. They can't really go wrong with a grad transfer because the scholarship will be available for 2016. Reaching for a mediocre 2015 would be a huge mistake, but Craig Randall and Andre Adams are interesting in 2015. I know very little about JUCO's, but I get the impression all, or most, of the good ones are gone.
I don't think they need anyone in that junior class. It might be nice for the sake of balance, but the guys that are currently sophomores will have lots of experience by the time they're juniors, so it's not really much of an issue.

Non qualifier won't use a scholarship

^ That's not necessarily true anymore with the new rules. Hines and Holloway both ended up qualifying for, and using, a scholarship last year.

With the football team going independent next year and the 1M shortfall that will cause with no TV revenue, bowl revenue, and reduced CFP payout the school needs to be fiscally responsible. By not using that scholarship it also allows them to cut a female scholarship, between the scholly's, food/gatorade savings, travel savings, exc they should be able to save an extra $80k!
