Game 27, 2012-13: at Xavier

Post by MikeUMA » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:39 am

We have a week off before Xavier. Good to get a little rest in before the stretch run.

Xavier has a non-conference contest between now and then: hosting Memphis on Tuesday (7PM ESPN2).

UM/Xavier will be national on CBS Sports Network.

I saw Monty have a big game and give X their first loss in a "spandy-new" Cintas Center a dozen years ago. I hope it happens again next Saturday!

Needless to say this is the biggest game of the year so far and if UMass wants to be considered in the upper echelon of the A10 they must have this game.

They have a week off so no excuses for fatigue Saturday, they need 100% from everyone from the tip. After the Xavier game they have another 4 days off before Butler comes to Amherst.

Two season defining games in 12 days!

Seems odd to have a week off at this point of the season, doesn't it?

^^ Is it me or has the whole schedule seemed odd?

I think what happenned is that, while the season started at its usual date, the regular season is ending somehat later on March 9. The NCAA's beginning on Thursday March 21 is a bit later than usual.

Yes there have been at least 3 seperat times this year where there has been a full week off. I don't think that is the norm at all and frankly I don't like it.

Selection Sunday is St. Patty's Day. There is a good chance I won't remember the selection show when I wake up Monday afternoon.

One reason why they had a long stretch of inactivity early in the season is BC dropped UMass from their schedule and UMass wasn't able to fill the spot. Thus they only have 29 games this seaosn.

Ford played FSU mid-A10 slate his first year, but I assume that was scheduled during the Lappas era.

This is must win if we ant to have a decent seed in the A10 tourney, and what I consider a good seed is a 5,6 or 7 seed. If we lose to X and thn Butler, we won't be wearing white in the pre-lim game.

Unfortunately that win in January 2001 was the only time we've won in the Cintas Center. We're 0-5 since.

Kellogg's teams are 0-2 there. We nearly got one in 2009, but got smoked the last time we were there, in 2011.

Gotta make it happen. Cintas is a tough place to win, but I don't think this Xavier team is any sort of bad matchup for us. Just need to go out there and outplay them, simple as that.
