Game 22: @ Saint Joe's

Post by MikeUMA » Thu Feb 03, 2011 3:24 pm

Opportunity for another road win on Saturday as we finish the back-half of our only 2-game road trip in the A-10.

The Hawk is flapping on one wing this season, currently at 5-17 overall, and 0-8 in the conference, tied with Fordham in the cellar. SJU had started the season 3-2 with a win over Rutgers at The Palestra, but has gone on the skids since, with only wins at Holy Cross, and at home over Siena since.

RealTimeRPI.com puts them at 208, with a 53 SoS. But they also project them losing to us, 74-73, and also going 0-fer the A-10.

Joe is at/near the bottom in nearly every statistical category in the league. Exception: in blocks they're #1, at 5.8 per game.

Their main man on offense is Carl Jones (5'11" G So). He's scoring 18.0 ppg, good for 4th in the A-14, behind Anthony Gurley at 20.3 ppg. Langston Galloway (6'2" G Fr) is their #2 scorer at 10.8 ppg, and leading rebounder at 5.9 rpg. Their UMass or Saint Joe has a rebounder in the league's top 15.

No TV on this one, but streaming video will be on thru UMassAthletics.com.

Saint Joe lost at home to Rhody a couple weeks ago, we beat Rhody last week, we should beat Saint Joe if that logic plays out.

Were up against another good coach whose team is hungry for their first league win. We'll see if these guys are up to the task!

Yeah... this game worries me a little bit because they are going to be hungry for a win. And we know it's coming. Hopefully the guys bounce back and are hungry themselves for staying in the top 4 of the A-10!

Not a very flattering headline: "UMass bored to death. Minutemen lose interest, game".......And not a very flattering picture of Anthony Gurley either!

Dewey says Freddie will play.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

I'm not so sure DK shouldn't sit him down anyway. That was a punk move.

Agree 100 percent with this. Totally unecessary move by Riley that was poor sportsmanship at its finest.

I will be disappointed if Freddie is not in street clothes on Saturday. Put an end to that type of behavior. I'd forgotten about Javorn's suspension last year. Maybe Freddie did too.

Agreed, I feel he should miss a game.

I think it should be considered. But I have no idea what Freddie's rationale or response was. DK has a better idea about what set him off and if he has since realized how dumb his reaction was. DK's handling of Traynam has earned my trust that he'll discipline Freddie appropriately, with much more info to go on than we have here.
