'Movie clip'? 'Movie clip'? Steve, it's 2010!!
Oh, and you forgot to mention that you were 'looking forward' to buying our table and the Blues Brothers a round of drinks.

OK, I haven't been critical of these team awards in the past, but I'll start today. Does everybody have to get an award? What is this, kindergarten? Does everybody need one or their feelings will get hurt?
Putney was a redshirt this season. What is he getting an award for? I know he was part of the team in practice and is working on bulking up, but the point remains.
Lex Mongo? Walk-ons are a nice story, but an award?
Trey Lang? Played a total of 45 minutes this season.
Gary Correia with the most assists award? No, that'd be Ricky. But apparently we can't double-up on awards. GC came in 2nd in assists on the season, with a whopping 2.16 per game. Although, in fairness, he did have the best A:TO ratio, so props are deserved there.
David Gibbs?? He's leaving the program. 'Nuff said.
I'm not bashing the players here so much as bashing the awards process. I just don't see why everybody has to get one. Why not use it as a real-world opportunity for motivation? Hey, player, you didn't win one this season. Give us some more effort and let's see how you do next season.
That's life, baby. Not everybody gets an award.

He deserves credit for handling the obvious disappointment of not playing well, however if he could have truly helped this team he would have been playing. The reason he didn't play is he wasn't big or strong enough yet to compete in this league, that was clearly communicated by Derek. I hope Putney will help us down the road and will be successful as a player and a student. But how do you give "player" awards to team members who haven't played?

Hey Mike, thanks for the awards recap. Let's me know that you read the UMass Athletics web site.
Great critique from people who couldn't find the time to support the team and Our State U by actually attending the banquet.
Reminds me of people who critique games and slam players during the season after reading the box score.
I know, times have changed. Now everyone has family obligations; it's a long drive; it was a tough day at the office; can't afford the gas or time with other more pressing obligations. All the things that were not there when UMass was a top 10 team and they had to have the banquet in the Mullins because it was the only place big enough to hold the masses that felt the need to attend.
I have a suggestion, if people have a problem with the awards ceremony then at least have the balls to show up in person and speak with those in charge who DONATE their time and money to make it an enjoyable evening for those who choose to attend.

Message board = place where people post their opinions. Just saying. I like the old days where awards meant something and not everyone got one just for showing up. Thank God they gave David Gibbs an award that he can take with him to his new school.Swampy wrote:Great critique from people who couldn't find the time to support the team and Our State U by actually attending the banquet.
