They must not be getting any or they can't get it up!!!!!!!!!!MikeUMA wrote:Given that's 36, or at best 60, hours from now, it's not going to make much difference, and this dead horse will continue to get beaten at that time.EBox wrote:How about a moratorium until at least the season is officially over?
Would be nice to save all the forward looking statements until this season is officially over.
By the way, WTF do some of you do all day, besides post here?
Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
Typical response. Let me point out that in 5 years, Bruiser's worst record in the A10 was 9-7, and in his final year, when he had no inherited players from the Cal years, he was 11-5. Yes, the overall record for the team was 15-15, but they actually played real competition in the non-con schedule during those years. And while they had no postseason appearance in his final season, his team lost in the finals of the A10 championship -- something no DK team has done. Again, I am not rehashing whether or not Bruiser should have been let go. Also, I don't give two craps what he did at Drexel. Bottom line is DK's conference record is far worse than Bruiser Flint's and Bruiser Flint played a hell of a lot tougher non-con schedule than DK's teams.chdavis295 wrote:Bruiser didn't have 1 tournament appearance in 15 years......78 wrote:So no response to the fact that Bruiser got fired despite being 24 games over .500 in conference play in his time here, but DK is just dandy with his 6 games under .500 record in conference over 8 years? Curious.

Don't forget that the A10 was a lot stronger in the A10 in the pre-DK years. We had to play Temple twice and Xavier once during Bruiser's (and Lappas') tenure.

^ 2nd that motion.
Time really zips by when you're reading the same arguments for 48 pages.
It took a LONG time for me to be able to say this about an argument on umasshoops but... I.DON'T.CARE!!!

I don't care either. Nothing we say here is going to change the situation for at least a year or two so I am suggesting that Mike shut down this topic.

I bet if we took out all the posts calling for the thread to be shut down, saying firing DK "is not going to happen" so we should move on, or claiming there is no new information or arguments, the topic would only be 30 pages long.

How come? We continue to talk about Calipari a lot. Some of us even seem to be stalking his son.ktabz16 wrote:Motion to stop bringing up Bruiser since he's been gone for 15 years now.

In approximately 20 centuries, assuming our species is not extinct, there will be a tribe indigenous to Western Mass, particularly the Happy Valley, who will be worshiping the personage Calipari , waiting, hoping, predicting His return.

Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
I don't care if Brusier was here 115 years ago, he still had a much better conference record than DK and got to the A10 finals the year he was fired. By the way, the thread is 49 pages, not 48.

Re: FIRE DEREK KELLOGG
OK so it's been a long time and obviously I could not quit the team - but I definitely needed to get out of the circle for a while. All I will say about last night is that it is always great to beat URI and the icing on the cake is that was probably the last game that whiney toad Hurley will coach in this conference !!!!! I am perplexed by the slow down and worse still the fact that DK told them to pick up the pace and they didn't... but we don't have many A-10 game tourney wins so I will take any we can get, and however we can get them.....
I could rant on Chili and Niles and a few others for hours.... not gonna do that - I am sure that day will come but not today.
I have been thinking a lot about this whole situation in Amherst and about a few others in the region too. Northeast basketball in general IS NOT GOOD across the board. BC is awful, UConn was the NC only a couple years ago and they are flirting with the NIT, Vermont, New Hampshire.... meh..... Other than Holy Cross - nobody else in New England will be in the NCAA's this year (I am pretty sure???).
I am not going to comment on whether DK is the right guy for the job, rather, I would prefer to lay out what is in front of Umass in the much bigger picture right now: Football is not going anywhere any time soon. I think Umass will be playing in the A-10 for many years to come. The AAC is not taking us (and frankly thank god for that from a basketball standpoint) their footprint will expand south not north. As noted BC is stuck in a tailspin that they might eventually come out of, but as of right now with the class we have coming in, Umass could put its foot on their necks and be THE Program in the state - plus you don't just get good overnight in a conference like the ACC - they still have A LOT of lumps to endure IF they ever recover. Uconn is treading in interesting waters too. High profile recruits are not knocking on their door like they were even 3 years ago and they are slipping backwards as a result. The AAC top to bottom is not as good as the A-10. Good class coming in or not, moving to a jumbalaya conference like the AAC would hurt basketball, and moving to a P5 might make us look like BC - no thanks!
Think about all of this - Umass is now in a position where they really could become the IT program of New England again. I needed to step back and look at it a little bit, but that Champions Center is a much bigger deal than most are giving credit for. Frankly - we suck - and DK still just landed the best single recruiting class (on paper) that Umass may have ever had? The Champions Center was specifically mentioned by at least 2 of those kids... If (and it is a very big and questionable IF) DK can be successful with this group - the momentum shift in Umass' favor could resemble the Saint Cal days - could... Great facilities and a team on the rise is a recipe for recruiting interest - and last time I checked there are A LOT of great basketball players right in our back yard that don't even think about Umass, never mind actually consider them. We could literally OWN New England.
I was reading the expectations thread and honestly that page is much more detrimental to everyone's psyche than this thread. General expectations are one thing, but specifics are the real danger. "We want to compete for A-10 titles" (top 4) is general enough and it probably feeds the beast of tournament appearances without actually stating it - take care of your business and the other stuff will come with it. For me, the only expectation next year is that it is better than this campaign. It is waaaay too soon to make any predictions or set expectations beyond that - until we see a roster and more importantly how it gets used - it is all conjecture. If I were DK those 7 guys would get every opportunity to succeed / fail from day 1. 3 minutes a game is not going to cut it and they are not going to learn enough. Take your hits with this group from Day 1 and Umass (and DK) will reap the benefits much sooner. No red shirting, no bull shit, just get them on the floor ASAP and lets see what happens.
I am really going to try to stay out of the muck - I know I will flame a few of you a few times, but I will try really hard not to. Joleon, Not Trigger and Kelz are covering my general sentiments from this season very well so I will leave it at that ... I will try to be a better board citizen if at all possible.
I am morbidly excited about next season and it has nothing to do with wins and losses.... It could be an unmitigated train-wreck, but it could be a reset button for DK and Umass Basketball....
