That team lost it's 2nd best player (Morgan) to injury at the start of the 1st A10 game.

DK isn't going anywhere for at least 12 months (more likely 24). Is it possible to get a moratorium on all of the fire DK talk for the next 12 months?

Chili - I actually meant failure in the sense of failure to reach the NCAA tournament. It really is not OK to say "DK got UMass to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 16 years" when five of those years are DK's and those five years are more years than the other coaches spent without getting there. It's just self-deception: you are fooling yourself.

How about a moratorium until at least the season is officially over? There's more topics/threads on firing DK, next year's team, who got jobbed on the A10 awards then there is on tomorrow's game. I'm not expecting us to win the A10 and punch our ticket but if you're still coming to post on this board, you've got to be some kind of fan (unless you're a troll). Would be nice to save all the forward looking statements until this season is officially over.

Poor DK. UMass has been the unluckiest team in America during his tenure. IF ONLY Morgan hadn't been injured...

Silence on the remaining points, I guess.

The time line is 5 years, not 2. UMass87 and I have both said "5 of those years." Your attempt to change the essential point and explain away and write off his first 2 years (you seem to have overlooked year 3's 15-15 finish, btw) is another example of the DK fan rewrite. Regardless, what is important is that DK has made it to the NCAA 1 time in 8 years and 5 of the 16 years without a bid were under his watch (3 for Bruiser, 4 for Lappas and 3 for Ford). That is how it should be framed. The "first time in 16 years" is just dumb PR spin that gets uncritically repeated.

Btw, that 21-12 bubble team, besides being a major disappointment coming off the previous season, was on a pretty precarious bubble before it settled for the NIT and flamed out at home against Stony Brook. And the NIT FF team was a team that many DK believers had previously insisted would be an NCAA team. The arguments in year 1-3 were remarkably the same as what we are now seeing recycled. "By his 4th year, with his players, his system blah, blah..." The NIT run was nice- perhaps the high point of Kellogg's tenure- but let's not forget that was supposed to be an NCAA team. I can still hear the arguments, "I expect an NCAA team by his 3rd or 4th year and if it doesn't happen I will agree it is time he goes..." and similar variations. Sound familiar?

Given that's 36, or at best 60, hours from now, it's not going to make much difference, and this dead horse will continue to get beaten at that time.

By the way, WTF do some of you do all day, besides post here?

So no response to the fact that Bruiser got fired despite being 24 games over .500 in conference play in his time here, but DK is just dandy with his 6 games under .500 record in conference over 8 years? Curious.

So we want to beat the Bruiser dead horse at the same time as the DK dead horse?

Letting Bruiser go, in hindsight, was a major mistake by Bob Marcum, simply because it lead to the hire of Steve Lappas. We all know this.

Bruisers contract was up I think and DK has three more years left on his.

It's not beating the Bruiser dead horse, it's focusing on the hypocrisy in saying DK is the man for the job despite being 6 games under .500 in-conference over 8 years.

What hypocrisy? Not retaining him was a mistake, in hindsight, but at the time seemed like the right move to most. This has been discussed over and over again.

Things then were on a downward trajectory, they really only had Eddie Basden coming in, and didn't have any years left on his contract. Things now are down after 3-4 decent years, but look up based on the recruiting class. Add in that 3 years would need to be bought out and it's two different situations regardless of the conference wins-losses.

I think he must mean no tournament apperance as head coach at Drexel. He must. Becuase we know Chili really knows his history (or, he has at least proven himself to be true master at twisting and revising it) and we all know Bruiser had 2 NCAAs in his five years at UMAss. And what is more remarkable is that both were in his first two seasons, something Chili says is unreasonable to expect of someone in their "first 2 years as an NCAA D1 coach."

You miss the part where I said 15 seasons? You know, the 15 years he was the head coach at Drexel? Where he also never won the league and didn't finish in the top four in 8 of the last 11 seasons.

And let's not forget bruiser INHERITED those tournament teams, how did he do in final three years when he was in charge of recruiting?
