Just looked, part of the reason could be they are sharing their home arena, the HPE Center with the Houston Cougars men's and women's basketball teams this season. The Houston area is under renovations. So it prob still is money related by renting out their arena. At least 6 UH non-conference games will be played in their arena.

Donte Clark today against Washington State.

22 Points, 14 Rebounds, 5 Assists. Pretty solid stats right there if you ask me.

Good for Donte but I don't miss anyone who didn't want to stay here.

I miss him because it would have made the current coaching staff job a lot easier having a 2nd threat from beyond 5 feet.

Donte would not make it easier for the current coaching staff. He would drive them crazy with his inconsistent focus.

^ This. His inconsistency and poor attitude would not fit into the type of program is trying to build. MM is building for the long run, DC would of been here for one last year and about himself. Hope he has success this year, but for the long term success of this program it's a positive he is not here.

True, it was pretty frustrating watching him at times.

Totally agree with this...yes, Donte will gets stats this year as he is given free reign(plus he is 6 yrs removed from HS with his pg year and the year he sat out) and he might’ve helped win a couple more games but I believe at the expense of MM deveping the culture that he wants.
It is a little premature, and I don’t think he will be like Johnny, but the feeling with this team is similar to 88-89 when Brown and Chase were gone and he pieced together a 10-18 team with Sean Nelen as 6th man at the end. He used the whole year to develop the culture that nothing but your best effort was acceptable...by the time Harper, Tony, Will and company were there the next year he had established how they were going to play.
This is what you’ve all been waiting for.

OffSeason, I have been a fan of college hoops for a very long time. I know all about team unity and I totally understand what Clark's deficiencies were while he was at UMass. Either he, the coaching staff, or both, saw something that resulted in him leaving. However, his age, which you denigratingly mention, his experience, and his ability to shoot are exactly the reasons I would have liked to see him on the roster this year. Good coaches motivate players and MM seems like an intense guy. I selfishly wish he was working that magic on Clark for the next four months.

And it's selfishness like that which MM is trying to rid!

I don’t think you can have it both ways, and with the long time you have watched college hoops I think you know that. MM would have to spend time and energy, that would be best used elsewhere, to work magic with Clark. Maybe he gets it done and you win a couple more games(although that is no guarantee) but it would come at the expense of Carl and Unique’s development...personally I would rather see them get the minutes.
As for Clark’s age, I was pointing out that being 4,5 or 6 years older than some of his opponents help’s with his stats.

Not only that but he would have eaten up 1 scholarship that was used on guys who are sitting out with 2+ years of eligibility left. If we are going to be a mediocre team, might as well build towards the future. I'm OK with how things worked out.
