^Not sure, I would love an answer as well
Re: Transfer Portal 2026
The rule is 15 max. They can be all scholarship if you so choose. If we bring in a 15th scholarship player, Josh Engel would lose his spot as a walk-on.
The issue is allocation of minutes. With 14 or 15 scholarships, a few guys (4 or 5?) won't see much court time. Even with 13, we had a redshirt each of the last 2 years and 3 or 4 guys under 10 minutes a game, some at the 5-minute level.

Took a look at status of our recent transfers. We already knew that K'Jei Parker wound up at Ball State. The ones that I hadn't heard about...
Donovan Brown - Seeking a waiver for a 5th year, which didn't work out for Rahsool Diggins last year. So far no landing spot that I've seen.
Bilal Osman - No landing spot that I've seen.
Charles Outlaw - Landed much closer to home, at Florida Gulf Coast.

Re: Transfer Portal 2026
most years UMass used fewer than the allowed scholarships, but this year looks like all are used. Meanwhile, the portal may re-open for many players. More chaos. I think several MAC guys that had already played 4 years entered the portal a few months ago.

This year I think there are 15 scholarships. If Rollie got one we have 14. Do we want Brown back or hope for Banks?

Our last transfer, Bilal Osman, finds a home.. he's going the Juco route and has committed to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College
Re: Transfer Portal 2026
Tells you a lot about the quality of our roster when kids cannot even get on a lesser D1 roster ("lesser" is very subjective in this case).inthescoop wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 2:53 pm Our last transfer, Bilal Osman, finds a home.. he's going the Juco route and has committed to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College
Re: Transfer Portal 2026
Eldon, I actually think we had a pretty talented roster last year. I don't count guys 11-13 off the bench as they don't get to play. For me, this team underperformed, somewhat like the teams in the 2010-2017 range. The talent was there, but not the wins. I don't mean to beat the dead horse about those years, but that's how I have always felt.

Going to JUCO usually means the player had to go that way for academics.eldonabe wrote: Tue Jul 14, 2026 10:58 amTells you a lot about the quality of our roster when kids cannot even get on a lesser D1 roster ("lesser" is very subjective in this case).inthescoop wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 2:53 pm Our last transfer, Bilal Osman, finds a home.. he's going the Juco route and has committed to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College

It tells me that the quality of our roster is improved - which is good since UMass needs to improve. Bilal isn't a kid but I wish him the best in his future endeavors in OK.eldonabe wrote: Tue Jul 14, 2026 10:58 amTells you a lot about the quality of our roster when kids cannot even get on a lesser D1 roster ("lesser" is very subjective in this case).inthescoop wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2026 2:53 pm Our last transfer, Bilal Osman, finds a home.. he's going the Juco route and has committed to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College

Re: Transfer Portal 2026
I'm not going to read too much into what the last guy on the bench who played zero minutes for us means about the current or previous roster. No offense to Bilal, I wish him success. There are all sorts of paths that these guys take.
Bilal transferred to a JUCO in Oklahoma. TBD how it ends up for him.
Lewis Walker transferred to NC A&T after redshirting, had a terrific year and is now at UCF.

What a whiff on my part, Floyd. Any chance to say Big Jelly you have to take, and I missed it.
Related, the Trappist Monks of St Joseph's Abbey in Spencer make a tremendous assortment of jellies and jams. I'm partial to the seedless red raspberry and blackberry jams. So many good ones, and summer is PB & J season.

^ Their beer wasn't too bad either.

Do they have a basketball team?
