At this point, I don't think UMass football is even in the barrel.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Thorr was at the men's basketball game against Harvard last night. After complete radio silence following the worst season in UMass history, and one of the worst seasons in NCAA FBS history, I was hoping Thorr would send a message out to the fan base now that he's officially started, but nothing.

There won't be anything from the Department until Monday. And even then, the info that goes out will be only to a few STHs and Donors.

Yes it was nice to see him there. He was gladhanding quite a few folks. I was surprised that he recognized me and actually came over to say hi!

Follow up with Thorr and student WMUA interview on the eve of the 2026 Spring Game.

This is a 42-minute interview about McGuirk updates this year and in a few years. What will be complete by September. The alignment, why he came here, his role, how big the decision to be part of the MAC is for the program. The connection with Coach Joe, knowing the challengers and why we were not successful and now there is alignment. Good words about new OC, Max Warner. How the players love the coach and being here and so many kids love playing for Joe and absolute wanted to be back here, despite being 0-12. The culture is great, GPAs are great, and of the 25 players in the portal, all except for 6 or 7 wanted to be here, but had the hard discussions that would not be getting playing time. Social media was brought up and how it he does not think about it as a 57-year-old but feels bad for the kids. Thorr has a title for a book, Managing by the message board. You can do it and get distracted by the noise and can lead to bad decisions.

Yes and Thorr said 6 not 6 to 7 players wanted to be in the transfer portal. It is drinking from the cool-aid bowl. Believe in the staff, players, administration, enjoyed the topics, hearing the alignment and enjoyed the show.

Does anyone complain about what fans post more than UMass?

I place little to no blame on any of the players. You are paying a coach (a ton of money) to teach each of them and also bring them together as a unit.

UMass is not even close to being in a position to blame players. Back in the Bruiser days, I did put a lot of blame on Aj Basit.. the kid was a cancer with his attitude and how her performed on the court. But those circumstances were way different.

We are not afforded a talent that can try to act like that, the best we are getting are kids with above average talent out of HS who dominated at that level, but are "middlers" at best at this level. They need to be taught everything - Can Frank actually teach? I would argue that no he cannot. He preaches that he can, but the reality is that he was previously coaching at a level where players came in with situational knowledge already in place - BB IQ. He could bark orders and players knew what he actually needed them to do. That is not the case at UMass.

Frank needs the equivalent of hours and only has minutes to develop .... he cannot do it.

If I was in Bamford's shoes, I would have hired Frank too, but I would never have extended him, and if I did not let him go after the 24-25 season, I would have definitely fired him after this last season. It is clear by his words and his actions that today's game has passed him by.

(I know this is a football thread, but the sentiment is similar to the OP above)
