I'm relieved to know that Juice is so vigilant and concerned about anybody possibly hurting poor defenseless Eldon's feelings. Since Eldon is so notoriously considerate of other's feelings....
My pleasure, Jack!

For real though, this is just a place for us to come talk about UMass sports, good or bad, whether celebrating or letting off steam. I try not to sling mud unless someone attacks me personally, and I think what Steve said about Eldon is a load of BS, so I called it out. I think Eldon's a pretty decent guy that makes reasonable points, he's just very passionate about UMass and drops some F bombs more than occasionally.
I do swear a lot .... that is a venting of frustration thing with me. Clearly I am fucking frustrated :D

I cannot fathom how Steve continues to double, triple and quadruple down on these ridiculous takes. It doesn't matter how many rationale takes people have about what is actually going on here, he just won't stop. And then the personal and insulting pot-shots. Unreal.

Yes it's certainly a travesty for Steve to support UMass athletics and disagree w/Eldon. Brilliant points.

Thanks IV for the succinct synopsis of my problems with Steve's postings and his personal attacks against those who have tired of his postings about the state of affairs with UMass athletics and Mr. Bamford, (who I believe would be better served to look for a different line of work). It has long bothered me about the spelling and grammar mistakes through Steve's postings which derail any points he may be making. But the personal attacks usually cause me to just ignore anything, good or bad, he may have to offer. Thanks again IV and the others who continue the good fight in support of the UMass athletics programs.

It was bad when he was just very subtlety taking shots at the bball-first fans and pitting them against and as hating football, never mind what is happening now.

I'll put my hand up as a basketball-first fan. I'm not a big football fan in general, even NFL, but I do follow it. Nothing would make me happier than UMass football doing well because it means that UMass is doing well. And they say a rising tide lifts all boats. If success in football helps the basketball program in some way, then that's an added benefit. Even as a basketball-first supporter, I'll never root against football.

My beliefs are the issues with men’s basketball and football are different. On the basketball side do think your extreme dissatisfaction with our AD is appropriate as funding for basketball has been funded well, but not at the top of the A10, because those teams do not have FBS football. That said, except for northern NE, and a few north Mountain States and South Dakota have FBS football. We are the flagship and it’s appropriate to have a public FBS program.

While agreeing with you in terms of the AD and being responsible, don’t see it with other sports. Men’s soccer with limited funding has done very well at times. Hockey, field hockey, women’s basketball all have done well. The AD hired Frank with a boat load of money, and Frank’s team has not recruited completely and we have seen MAC programs do a far superior job. Frank recruited and should have know the issues with them. How frustrated out of our minds are we, seeing other teams drive into the elbow and foul line area and score. Our guards are beat with the first step, but this part is what drove me insane. They would penetrate to the same elbow foul line area and not shot and pass the ball. WTF.

With NIL era this is correctable. Miami’s success and watching other teams, there is good basketball and recruiting potential, as other teams in the MAC have done it.

Now with posting on the football forum and it is a football forum; the funding is getting there but still a fraction of what UConn spends on football. But I blame the chancellor area with the lack of past success. We had a Chancellor that did not communicate and build support and did what he wanted. He was push out for that. But he thrusted UMass to be FBS and there was a backlash of opposition and institutional funding was cut and not increased to support FBS football. I don’t know who hired McCutcheon but scheduling almost exclusively Power teams was crazy. He hired Molhnar, who chased players away and we never got close to the scholarship limit until the transfer rule changes.

The next chancellor Swampy did nothing to help the budget deficient football operated at and we continued to hover FCS coaching salary level. We were independent and a career killer to any ones Head Coaching career. We now have Chancellor Javier Reyers that has been good to football and supportive of our AD securing MAC FBS money that has allowed us to hire additional coaches as special teams that had been terrible and other areas. (Noting Miami has 7M NIL money wo we are not at the top of the MAC.) Disappointed with last year’s lack of success, but happy Ryan was able to hire Joe, who believed he could tackle this tough job and not kill his career.

Make no apologies for asking you all not to transfer your anger of Bamford on the football forum, because his short comings are primary with men’s basketball. He has always, until 2024-25 not had the funding to support successful FBS Football. The money is controlled by the Chancellor and higher. You guys are right and to have the visceral anger about his responsibility and execution for basketball. The money is there and buy games are the opposite. We pay lower D1 teams to play us at home. Frank maybe set in his ways, but he is not stupid. I don’t follow recruiting closely there, but we need quicker, bigger guards that can shoot, including the mid-range game.

Also believe Coach H will start showing progress this year and hope it snowballs in a good way. We have seen this snowball the wrong way for over a decade. Phommachanh was our last good QB, who drove for a TD at Auburn and on the second drive all the way to the red zone, got injured and was never the same. I’m cautiously optimistic about Pope, since injuries can happen and we need to protect him.

From personal experience you can turn a blind eye to attacks against the football program or personally for so long until you need do something about. I was at Fort Knox for basic training and there was a guy riding my ass until I got fed up enough, grabbed him and pinned him to the barracks wall with my fist at his face. Also believe if you hear a lie long enough, people start believing. So, when some transfer Ryan Bamford failure with men’s basketball at the football program, I defend football. I believe the issues are with the Chancellor and above, which has final become positive and look forward to success and don’t believe it’s hopeless as long as Ryan is here.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

Steve your consistent defense of Bamford is disappointing.
Since Bamford has been here our football record is 21-103 - many if the wins against FCS teams. His basketball record is 154-181 46%.
At any other FBS school he would have been gone.

Steve, please stop with defending Bamford. IT'S HIS JOB to make UMass sports successful. It's been 10 years and he makes $1M per year. I can't figure out how he even has a job. With the exception of hockey, it's been a horror show. How he keeps getting contract extensions is beyond me. I'm thinking he has some pretty good connections.

He shitcans Whipple and hires Coach Gomer (who when he sold his house they said there was a TV in every room; I wish there was a book in every room). Mark Whipple had this program actually competitive against P4 schools, believe it or not. Now (I can't believe I'm saying this) we may lose to at least one FCS school from the NEC. OK Sacred Heart just moved up to the CAA but Stonehill is NEC. I can't believe UMass football is playing Stonehill. I live 5 miles away and it could pass for a high school stadium. What's next? Assumption?

If we lose to Sacred Heart and/or Stonehill, I would cancel the season immediately and forfeit all remaining games. No lie. And please don't PM me with nonsense. How in the NIL era we aren't winning 3 or 4 games a season is beyond me. Akron, EMU and Kent State are jokes. Yes I know the size of the school and its endowment are irrelevant. Coastal Carolina went to a bowl game last year and has a community college size endowment. they are 4-0 against us and in 9 years have 2 bowl wins. Rant over: fire Ryan Bamford NOW. No more contract extensions.

In 2016, UMass played its first independent schedule. This was created by Bamford. His plan was to play big time games. In the years prior, with Gillette as the main home stadium, the goal was to schedule marquee games because no-one wanted to see the MAC. IN 2016 UMass lost by a combined 50 points to BC, Florida, Mississippi State and South Carolina. We lost by more to Troy by 42 the same year. The early years of independence were set up the same as UConn is with games to attract fans. We couldn't win. Whipple was 4-8 his last two seasons. Bell came in and played no more than two P4 games and couldn't win more than a game a season and had no losses within two touchdowns. Bell was Bamford's hire. DB came in and didn't win enough, either, and it was maddening. Losing to Liberty and Miami and UConn by a combined 9 points (yes, DB was gone for the UConn game)was light years ahead of Bell or what happened last year. Bamford oversaw all of this. Bamford somehow got Missouri and BC to Amherst. Credit there. We were no shows both times. Whipple had the least amount of money and the hardest schedules. He and Brown brought in players who had pro aspirations and some made the NFL.
