Five Guys who can stay on the court is what we need. I have no idea how money stuff works this year. Got to try and nail down three guys that can flat out play. All we have now is a core of supporting cast types. I can see Wimbley and Clerc improving, Luca a bit too. Danny is really good and will get better. Jayden is our glue guy and best defender.

I want to see us go after five guys that can stay on the court.

There's no way to know who can stay on the court. What if a guy is playing really well but then doesn't close out properly? Frank may bench him for a month. A guy could not box out his man or let a player drive by him once and never play again.

I think it's pretty easy to tell. Look how Wimbley struggled at first, looked lost. Then as the year went on he gained confidence. What I mean is guys who have shown that they can get minutes in D1 and stay on the court for ten minutes without fouling four times.

“Yeah we have all these great players out in the transfer portal but will they stay quiet and listen to me when I bark at them and sit back and demand for perfection. No but the less talented players in D2 and JuCo will. I need loyal guys on this team.”

Frank Martin’s mentality on the transfer portal. He makes it about himself, not winning and the team.

Honestly at this point, whatever the budget is, I’d spend it all on only 2 players who will come and make a difference instead of dividing it equally for 5 to 7 players to fill the roster like we have done in the past.

Quick update. 2017 names in the portal so far, and we are only in day 4 of a 14-day window. Last year ended up at 2662.

There was enough talent on this past years team to be better than an 8th place finish. No doubt in my mind. Discipline seemed to be more important than winning games

Question, do you think there's lots of kids teetering on the fence about transferring or did they have their minds made up a while ago? Or is it all about negotiating deals to decide?

Loyalty is the absolute wrong word these days. Almost nobody is loyal anymore. Just more proof that his time has passed.

If I am in that position I am selling these kids on getting them to their next gig. You need to embrace what you (UMass) are in this system. UMass is a stepping stone, if you want to move up to the P5, I will do everything I can to give you the tools to get you there.

Just like in business, you should always be training people for their next job, you are failing as a manager if you are not doing that.

There must be somebody that we can use:

·
RESET: Boston College basketball is down to one player as everyone else in portal. Luke Murray is going to get to flip the entire roster

^Guaranteed BC will be better next season. Sounds like a good problem for that program to have - Earl Grant built a pretty bad team at BC.

If I had to guess, the 3 we've lost at this point had their minds made up a while ago. K'Jei and Frank didn't seem to mesh very well, and Osman and Outlaw probably wanted to go search for playing time. I'm surprised we haven't seen Clerc's name yet, and hope he sticks around.

The players we're waiting on are Carbuccia, Clerc, Damjanac, Ndjigue, and Wimbley. In my opinion, Carbuccia and Wimbley stay and try to do what Jaylen Curry did. They had up and down freshman seasons, so they can develop further in year 2 and then get a big payday. Damjanac and Ndjigue are UMass faithful, Ndjigue because he's from here and Damjanac because his W&M coach was Mike Mannix, and he probably won't get better offers.

What in the world? I thought we had best-in-MAC NIL? We should have been able to keep him here. I thought with his shooting splits he would have moved up a level to somewhere like USF, an AAC school in his home state. Something doesn't add up, and it's probably that modern players hate playing for Frank. Yeah, I'm not thrilled about this one.

Not that I know anything, but my gut says that Parker wasn't thrilled with being benched at crunch time. I wasn't thrilled with it either.

I feel like this is a big FU to FM if Parker wasn’t run out of town. If he was run out then we got a real big problem.
