Game 30, 2025-26: at Bowling Green (2/28)
Re: Game 30, 2025-26: at Bowling Green (2/28)
I embedded the NCAA formatted box score PDF, with the +/- numbers onto the game page: https://umasshoops.com/wiki/doku.php?id ... #box_score
It's ugly.
Luka a -24 in 11:32. Yikes.
Banks a -21 to go with 4-15 shooting. Oof. Last two games combined he's 7-33 from the field (.212) and 4-20 (.200) from three.

I agree Bamford needs to go to but in short term i dont see that happening..they could have Thorr be in charge of the hiring easily. Why waste time and keep a coach whose teams imploded down the stretch three out of four years?

Rather than Thorr doing the hiring, why not just name him to be the next AD ?

He wouldn't be a bad hire, but maybe he's ready to retire? I know he's older than I am, slightly, and I'm trying to wrap up my career in the next few years. I remember seeing Bjorn all the time at Curry Hicks at hoops games back in the day.doubledribble wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2026 8:39 amagree Bamford needs to go to but in short term i dont see that happening..they could have Thorr be in charge of the hiring easily. His last hire was Archie Miller, so that makes me feel that he's still pretty connected to Coach Cal.

Think there needs to be a caution sign on TBjorn's hoop hires:
Danny Hurley, upper deck grand slam
David Cox, unmitigated failure
Archie Miller, dud
Old UMass friend Tim Kenney had alot to do with the Archie hire at URIne. I know we are tired of the yelling and sidelick schict, but does Bobby Hurley want to come back east? Do you look at bringing back Derek? Not sure how excited this fan base will be with anyone but Franciso J. Martin is not him..
This current team, coaches and staff have quit. If they make Cleveland great

Can't believe he hired a future national championship coach? That definitely deserves a caution sign. A lot better than any recent UMass hiresPreecherJenkins wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2026 11:13 am Think there needs to be a caution sign on TBjorn's hoop hires:

Whipple and Brown excelled at UMass first time around. DK did not.inthescoop wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2026 11:27 amCan't believe he hired a future national championship coach? Dude stop.... just stop. DK was not good. He had a generational player carry his lack of game plan and in game adjustments. Before and after Chaz exposed DKs "coaching ability".PreecherJenkins wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 1:09 pmwas he a national champ at URI? DK is a good dude and I wish him success, but been there & done that. There are so many other options we should try next before considering bringing him back.
His major accomplishments:
- NCAA bid in 2014
- NIT Semis in 2012
- Reached the A10 Semis twice ('12 and '13)
- Getting ranked as high as #13 in 2014
What else would you add to that list?
The downsides:
- Never finished higher than 6th in the A10
- Average seed in the A10 Tourney across his tenure: 8.8
- .447 conference regular season win percentage
There's nothing to suggest he'd be much better in another stint here.

I liked DK as a person and as a recruiter, but I think he had some of the most underachieving teams in recent years. The talent level was there but too many bad losses. This year's team is in that ballpark.

Re: Game 30, 2025-26: at Bowling Green (2/28)
I cannot believe this is being discussed.. again.
DK took far too much shit considering he is STILL the only coach since Bru to get UMass to the NCAAT, but it became clear as day that he never developed/grew as a head coach from day 1 to his last day here, or even his last day at LI. Great recruiter and that talent took him places. Great person, and a UMass legend. But that's not an avenue we should go down again.

Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades
