Was Carvy taking a subtle shot at Ryan Leonard with that comment?

RL committed to UM very early and cited the Beanpot as a reason for going to BC…..he didn’t mention winning the Beanpot, which is good because he didn’t and he didn’t mention where Northeastern ( Beanpot winner RL Freshman year ) sat in his options.

Carvel has been saying similar things about recruiting out of state vs in state kids for almost his entire duration at UMass. I don’t think anyone should take that as a shot at any one person in particular, as opposed to the current reality of recruiting for NCAA college hockey.
UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.

With a bye weekend upcoming; hope the wife isn’t making plans…..and nothing else on the agenda for today..lol…I looked over the roster and noticed that the only scheduled losses for next year are defenseman…..MH is a probable, by with two goalies in the pipeline who are NHL draft picks ( had a third but he has decommited) and I still have a difficult time filtering out when the commitments are actually coming ( ‘26-‘27) (‘27-‘28) (‘28-‘29) (‘36-‘37) is there any idea who will be arriving next year and getting right in the rotation as defenseman? Probably be two at least…

A great chart on the UMass roster and recruits. Click on the picture to enlarge it. Of course, other than the seniors, we don't know who else might be leaving and that will determine which guys come in next year. Besides these commits, the portal is in play.

Carvel was one of the speakers at the Sports Luncheon and I love hearing him talk. He pulls no punches. I asked him if Musa's brother was coming next year and he said he didn't know. I said something like "too bad" and he said that there will only be one Musa on the team next year. Apparently, Jack thinks his younger brother is an arrogant pain in the ass and won't play with him. I think Carvel feels the same way, but you need 1 of these on your team.

Question: Is the younger Musa better that Jack? If so, then suck it up ……lol

With two (2) senior defenseman in the top 6, there will be a need for at least two (2) and maybe up to four (4) slots to fill in the top 6.

I don’t have a great deal of recruiting knowledge in hockey, so does anyone have thoughts as to who will be stepping into the lineup next season? I imagine there will be a transfer, but still plenty of new bodies in front of a new goalie.

Incoming pipeline
There are thirteen (13) defenseman listed, but there is no timetable for any of the arrivals. Would love to
know who will be arriving in the 2026-27 season. UMass is hosting a regional next season , so a bid next year means playing in Springfield.

I know that Anello is not coming for three (3) seasons (‘28-‘29)
but that list doesn’t tell me who will playing next season….
I just need someone /anyone to tell me who arrives next season, thanks!!!

^ Super ! Appreciate it!!
It seems like Hockey doesn’t announce National Letters of Intent like Football and Basketball, so all the information has to come from outside the program.

I tried to get some of the big UMass hockey fans I know that really are into the recruiting stuff to come here and answer your question, but I think they were afraid of this old school web page. Sorry!
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Thanks ! It’s only “Old School” because has to be…..lol…

The thing I like about Hockey recruiting is that some of the players have been drafted by NHL teams , so you have some assumptions of talent level based on a franchise investing draft picks on players.

Football and basketball have 5 star ; 4 star and other levels , but those are determined by people that have no monetary investment in their opinion.

As part of a larger trade:

"The Bruins received a 4th rounder in the deal and took Vashek Blanar. A 6'5" LH 18 year old Defenseman who's attending UMass next year. Minutemen have a good class coming in for Head Coach Greg Carvel."
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."
