The reunion was a devastating reminder of just how far UMass basketball has fallen. There were more empty seats in the building last night than there were in the entirety of the '96 team's time at UMass.

Calipari coached his teams to Refuse To Lose. Martin seems to coach his teams to to Refuse To Win.

What about not call a timeout when Bettiol was bottled up right in front of him (Frank) in the last minute of play

Attendance was 5,092. Not bad considering the student sections that had 2,400 or so students in them on Tuesday, were virtually empty.

We've lost 13 games of which we were in the position to win every one of them in the last few minutes but come up short every freaking game!
That includes 3 OT losses of which 2 were home and the average loss was 4.6 points per game. Nothing has changed from the beginning of the season: too many TO's and forced post entries and way too much fouling and poor foul shooting. We've always had some of this, but this guy is getting paid way too much for these terrible results. I'm over it.

Overall attendance was over 2k fewer. Students don't like to sit in that section and when the place is about half full they choose where to sit. My guess is that the drop off was equal among students and general public.

Students simply don’t go! Awful!
They do turn to for hockey those which makes for a great atmosphere! Wish they would do that for basketball

I randomly only caught the OT of this game and it was typical UMass. Starting to feel like Déjà vu at this point.
And let’s call it how it is.. not play Placide after his performance against Miami OH is a clown show

They don't sit where they are told. I'm sure there were 800-1000 students there last night. Athletics should be getting their other teams there for games like this one. The Miami game was one "average" kids would attend. The student section behind the basket should have all the athletes, especially since it seems they reserved it for them for the "big game". The arena used to be half students and half paying public. They have limited student tickets over the years. Message to "regular" students is that they do not matter.

Why would they limit students if the place is empty?
Do students even need tickets?

There is no way that there were that many students. I do a lot of walking around both before the game and during halftime and saw very few students. I passed the student entrance at least half a dozen times before the game and saw a total of 3 students entering. Student attendance is a disgrace but the program hasn’t given them a good reason for coming out for a long time so I can’t really blame them.

The sleeping giant did one of those big sleeping yawns on Tuesday as if it was going to awaken, but we lost, and apparently the sleeping giant went right back to sleep yesterday. Brutal.

I'm sure there were some students there, but it's crazy that they don't band together as a section, or that the Department doesn't make a concerted effort to force them too. And what happened to the greek life thing? And enough with the end zone section is bad bullshit... it has nothing to do with that. They don't care because A) the team continues to stink, and B) the marketing/promotion of what a game day student experience is terrible.

As for the game itself... once again Luka as the backup option to Leo was a disaster. And how in the world does Placide go from the performance Tuesday night to playing 1 fucking minute???? You don't even give the kid a chance to see if he can repeat or at least build on that? Holy hell. And not calling a timeout when Leo was trapped right in front of our bench was very bad.

That review at the end that went as a common foul was BS, that would have given us a chance. But in the end, it was all the same stuff that doomed us.

^sure it would have been a weak flagrant 1 and there was less than 10 seconds left but that was a textbook hook and hold flagrant.
