Game 27, 2025-26: Miami OH (2/17)
Re: Game 27, 2025-26: Miami OH (2/17)
Miami expected to win, so pressure is on them. UMass lost by just 2 on their court; perhaps will be better with home floor. OTOH, their PG (Skaljac) was out that day and is back. They're better with him. Placide had a chance to win that game out there at the end, but he ended the day 0 for 4. He's better than that. Perhaps he'll hit a couple and make the difference this time.

Check your spam folder as well. Subject line was "Thank You, Season Ticket Member! Claim Free Tickets Today!" and the sender address is [email protected].
If it isn't there, call the box office and inquire, assuming you are in need of the 2 free tickets. Good luck!

We CANNOT let free throws kill us again. Last game, 38 for them, 17 for us in a 2-point game.

Are you really quibbling over the term used in place of "Holder?"
Weird.

The use of the word ‘member’ reminds me of Groucho’s line about his not wanting to join a club that would have someone like him as a member.
That and the annoying practice of some companies referring to their customers as ‘guests’.

I apologize if this is in the print version, but it's not in the online version, and I'm super bummed and kind of surprised that the Gazette doesn't have a preview article this morning. I know that traditional print media has been gutted, but this is the biggest game at the Mullins Center in years. I'd like a preview not just because it could drum up additional fan support for tonight, but also because it's actual sports news. Did Frank Martin not hold his typical media availability leading up to the game? If UMass wins tonight, it will make national headlines.
Oh well, the most important thing is the game.

Very important we play well tonite. With all the attention of them being ranked & undefeated, getting blown out or playing poorly would not be good. Could this be the game we put it all together and everything clicks? Hoping so

Game day. When was the last ranked opponent to come to the Mullins?
And I assume St. Joe's is the last undefeated team to come into the Mullins this far down the line?

I think it was in late Feb in 2020 when #6 Dayton with Obi Toppin came into the Mullins center and won a close game. I remember Tre Mitchell outplaying Toppin that game too.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 8:05 am Game day. When was the last ranked opponent to come to the Mullins?

Late Feb in 2020, not much happened in this world a few weeks later.

That makes sense. I figured it was either a ranked Dayton or VCU team. I remember that game.
Mitchell had 26 points, 10 rebounds - also 6 assists leading both teams that game lol - while Toppin had 19 and 7.

I don't think Frank availability is the issue. I think the Gazette not running a preview is simply how they choose to use their ever-shrinking pool of reporters. They seem to have placed their primary focus on high school sports, and they'll send a reporter to a UMass game if they have time.Juice Stand wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 6:35 am I apologize if this is in the print version, but it's not in the online version, and I'm super bummed and kind of surprised that the Gazette doesn't have a preview article this morning. I also miss how much they used to devote to us, when Matt Vautour was there. He used to do previews, a game recap and notebook articles, and stuff in between.
The Collegian and Minuteman Command have previews, but they're light and devoid of Frank quotes respectively.

The Collegian piece has a good stat: UMass is currently ranked 350th in defensive free-throw rate, according to KenPom.
WMUA's show, which was recorded on Saturday, has a bit of a Miami preview.

Yes, that's correct, UD was the last ranked team to visit Mullins.fenway617 wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 9:43 amI think it was in late Feb in 2020 when #6 Dayton with Obi Toppin came into the Mullins center and won a close game. Tonight will tell us alot about UMass Basketball as it related to its fans. The Mullins should be jam packed tonight. If it isn't, that will be a bad sign of where the program is. Hopefully it's jam packed and people still care. We shall see.
