Very entertaining game, and 'Mani is nails. Great crowd on hand with the double header. I know it's hard to schedule, but they should do this more often.

She hustles, gets deflections, keeps balls alive and rebounds. Not the best shooter but she makes up for it in many other ways.
Lilly was a bright spot on the team two years ago during the difficult transition year and she became one of my favorite players. It's been great to see her mature in her role with the team, bringing her unique energy. She's even improved a bit in her shooting this season, but her game is really hustle, rebounding, and tough defense. Happy to see others noticing her skills.

Looks like it was a wild one yesterday. We were on an airplane trying to monitor the score as best we could. We didn't get the final score until we landed. Yikes. Close call, but a win is a win. Hopefully the team can learn from experiences like this and keep improving. Glad to hear the crowd was good. I also think offering a men's/women's combo is a great idea when possible. We'd have gone to both games had we been in town.

It was an entertaining game throughout. After the first half, it looked like we were going to blow them out, but it's clear that they changed their strategy coming out of halftime. Until the end of the game when they desperately needed points, they more or less abandoned the 3-point shot in favor of repeatedly driving to the basket. This was very successful, leading either to an easy bucket or a foul by the defender. Against quick teams, we're going to have to tighten up our interior defense or this is going to be a problem going forward.

Tomorrows game is at 11 AM. It must be the annual school field day game they have every year. Going to be a lot of schools there and they have games they play during the game. Worth going to.

Akron is pretty bad so it's a game we should win. Akron is 0-4 in league play, but they have lost to the 3 top teams in the MAC, who all stand 4-0. Maybe they are a little better than their record but it's still a game we should win. Play hard, play smart and all that other good stuff!

A blowout win 82-68. We scored 28 in the first quarter at a furious up and down pace. We were up by 20 when the benched cleared. We played 11.

The take-away was that Odenigbo was out, and we were fine. Ferguson and Ross had double digit career scoring days, and both showed offensive moves hardly seen before.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

This! So nice to see both step up and find success on both ends of the court. I've felt for a while that if Jess Ross can up her game a little, that
would be a major benefit to the team given her height. She showed some of her potential today. Super happy to see Lilly get the start. She seems far more confident with her shooting this year and really stepped up today.

Do we know why Chinenye was out?

I have to remember to bring my ear plugs to the next field trip game. Those kids were loud! I've been in rock bands that didn't play that loud.

It was actually really fun having the kids there. It made for a great environment.

^ On the broadcast, Nathan said she was 'under the weather". If so, it makes sense to keep her away from the rest of the team. I heard that she was not in the building.

Very happy for Lilly and Jess. Maybe this will help Jess's self-confidence. As RR said, if she can up her game it would be a big boost for the team.

The schedule gets a little tougher for the rest of January, except the next game. 3 out of 4 would be Ok with me.

@ Buffalo (0-4, 2-13)
@ Ball State (4-0, 12-4)
Home to Bowling Green (2-2, 9-6)
@ Ohio (4-0, 10-4)

Thanks! This was what I was hoping to hear... illness, not injury. Definitely a good game to let her rest up and get better.

Three out of four would be incredible. I think Ball State will be really tough. I also give Ohio a slight edge given that they're at home, but I'd love to see them take that one. These are some of our biggest tests in the MAC this season.

Kent State beat Ohio yesterday, so UMass moves to third in the MAC. Looking at Ohio's schedule, their MAC wins, and now one loss, have come against weaker teams. I'm thinking differently now about our game against Ohio and hoping we can pull out a win on the road in that one.

Actually it was 79-67. Didn't like to see them lose an edge and let Buffalo cut a 25 point lead to 10. Big game for Franks.
