as one who was there I thought the atmosphere was great (during the game) as usual the announced attendance seemed about 1500 less than was actually there - I was convinced there were at least 4000 but who knows. When we lost fans just walked out, no one was upset, it was almost like they knew we'd figure out a way to lose and it didn't really surprise them. I actually heard a guy in front of me say on the last BG possession of regulation to the guy sitting next to him - "watch - we're going to foul while they are shooting a 3 pointer and they will hit it and make the FT and we're going to lose". Sad to think that's the way our fan base thinks now but it's so true.Floyd wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:12 am Juice has a lot of good points. Insult & deflect blame.
Bad energy & vibes around right now. I'd be curious what fans walking out of that game yesterday would say about the atmosphere & game day experience

I pretty much feel the same way. The one saving grace is our rev share is set to double next year to $2 mil. We might be able to recruit enough talent to overcome the other bad stuff.MakeMullinsGreatAgain wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:14 am I've been of the mindset that Frank is a good enough recruiter that he will out recruit everyone in the MAC, and just based on talent alone, they will compete for the MAC championship every year - the past couple weeks I no longer feel that way. I'm not about to do the research but I would be willing to bet there is not one player in the MAC that Frank recruited - and if he had I guarantee they would have come to UMass/A-10. I still think, and maybe because I wear my maroon glasses all the time, but I really do think we have one of the most talented rosters in the MAC, but Frank is middle of the pack and maybe lower when it comes to coaches. I also think his assistants are afraid to speak up and point out things to him during the game for fear of getting screamed at like Kellog and Nelson did and ultimately get shown the door after the season. Most good teams have a great coaching "staff" not just a great head coach - Frank talks all the time about how loyal his coaches are - well shoot - if they just do what he says all the time and don't push back of course he's going to keep them on board.
I'm now convinced we need to move on from Frank - he's never going to change and the game has passed him by - he cannot coach in the day and age of NIL.

Thanks Floyd, and I agree that the atmosphere was actually pretty good yesterday. The place was loud quite a few times, and people were getting on the refs. I also noticed some resignation by fans that we were probably going to lose once it started unraveling. A bunch of people left at the end of regulation with no interest watching us get beat in OT.MakeMullinsGreatAgain wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:22 amas one who was there I thought the atmosphere was great (during the game) as usual the announced attendance seemed about 1500 less than was actually there - I was convinced there were at least 4000 but who knows. Never seen a coach who does everything but coach. Coach them their weaknesses on the court so we can become better? No, they need to figure it out. Having a bad day where maybe the coach and team can come together to help you out? No, you need to figure it out. Everyone needs to figure it out but his own kids, who he figured it out for.
He wants to turn all of his players into “men” and yet he continues to give his own kids a free pass and show them that life is about nepotism and free passes, but everyone else who’s working hard needs to figure it out for themselves and be a man. The irony.
Not donating a single dollar more.

Thats a great post that I think is spot on. I would also bet we are paying DHS more than most MAC teams are paying thier whole roster.

Re: Game 15, 2025-26: Bowling Green (1/3)
listening to the post game show for the Pats and listening to Ted Johnson talk about how he came up playing for Bill Parcells and while he was tough they still had some good times - then playing for Pete Carroll they maybe had too many good times - but then playing for Belicheck, as much as he respected him as a coach - he wasn't having fun playing for him and he realized at that point if he wasn't having fun doing what he loved the most, he had to get out of New England...I can't help to think thats what these kids are thinking. They love to play basketball but Frank just sucks the life out of them and its not fun anymore and they want to leave.
I can honestly count on one hand how many times I've seen Leo smile this year. He's our best player and Frank treats him like $hit!
Still think we can turn this around and get in top 8 and make MAC tourney but it'll be on the players not anything Frank does.

I don't like the D3 game, but that's the way things are going now. In the A-15 last season, only one didn't play a sub D-I game. In the MAC this season, 11 of the 13 played multiple sub D-I games (us and EMU held it to just 1). Miami and BG played 3.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:07 am Sounds like yesterday went swimingly. Good thing we played that D3 tuneup!
Re: Game 15, 2025-26: Bowling Green (1/3)
I had the same thought: just don't foul on the 3. Once we did, I felt like the loss was inevitable. We've seen this film before and we got another sequel.MakeMullinsGreatAgain wrote: Sun Jan 04, 2026 9:22 am I actually heard a guy in front of me say on the last BG possession of regulation to the guy sitting next to him - "watch - we're going to foul while they are shooting a 3 pointer and they will hit it and make the FT and we're going to lose". It's a stupid trend. There are 360ish D1 NCAA basketball teams, there is zero reason to be playing regular season games outside of the D1 level.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

^ and how many D1 basketball schools in the Northeast? Answer: a ton. I don't care what the trend is, do better for the program and for your fans.
