Game 12, 2025-26: Kent State (12/20)

Post by MikeUMA » Mon Dec 08, 2025 3:57 pm

At the risk of getting ahead of myself, I'm doing some deep dives on MAC opponents...

Kent State
MAC member since: 1951

MAC titles, regular season (outright or divisional): 9, last 2015
MAC tournament (began in 1980) titles: 7, last 2023

NCAA Tournament appearances: 7, 4-7 record
Last bid: 2023 (lost in First Round)
Farthest run: Elite Eight in 2002 (that team had NFL HOF'er Antonio Gates)
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sc ... state/men/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_Stat ... basketball

Current coach: Rob Senderoff, 15th season
MAC Coach of the Year in 2021-22
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/co ... off-1.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Senderoff

Kent's last 4 seasons:
2021-22: 23-11 / 16-4 (2nd), lost in the MAC final, lost in the first round of The Basketball Classic tournament
2022-23: 28-7 / 15-3 (2nd), won the MAC tourney, lost to Indiana in the NCAA First Round
2023-24: 17-17 / 8-10 (8th), lost in the MAC final
2024-25: 24-12 / 11-7 (3rd), lost in the MAC semis, won at Bonaventure in the NIT First Round, lost at Loyola-Chicago in the NIT Regional Final (final 8)

Senderoff vs Frank Martin: no previous meetings

I'm getting emails from UMass Athletics inviting me to get free tickets to this game so I can enjoy it like I did the BC game.

Problem is that even though I completed the form for the free tickets to the BC game, I never got the tickets.
Thank you for joining us last night and helping cheer the Minutemen to a memorable win over Boston College! We appreciate the Commonwealth Legacy Foundation for providing the tickets that brought so many area youth to the game.

UMass Athletics would like to extend an additional complimentary ticket offer so you can join us again as we open play in the Mid-American Conference on Saturday, December 20 at 2 p.m. against Kent State at the Mullins Center. The Golden Flashes were picked third in the MAC preseason poll and are off to a strong 9-1 start.

Click the button below to claim up to four free tickets. Additional seats are $10.

Parking:
• $12 in advance
• $17 on gameday (card only)

Thank you again for your support. We would love to see you back at the Mullins Center on December 20.

As of today Massey has this is a toss up with Umass showing a 49% change of winning (1 point spread).

Hopefully being a home game will get them over the top - because it sure as shit won't be foul shooting .

From a league competitiveness standpoint, this should be a good barometer to set the tone for the Conference Schedule.

LS, did you get that from UMass Athletics or from the Commonwealth Legacy Foundation? I'm a season ticket holder and would love the opportunity to pick up an extra ticket to the game, but I didn't receive an email. I find it odd that UMass Athletics would send this out but not include their season ticket holder base.

it came from UMass Athletics.

I agree that STHs should get this so they can offer some these tickets to their friends/family.

Maybe they’re hoping to attract new potential customers, thinking they already have STHs’ $$. It’s not uncommon for companies to offer sweet deals to attract new business while not thinking about their existing customers.

If we can play even close to what we did today we should be OK.

Did you reach out to us? We sent out 2,906 tickets. A very small number of people—three, to be exact—ran into issues. Every email we received regarding those situations was responded to, and assistance was provided immediately.

In starting this foundation, our goal has been to be proactive about filling seats and improving access, mostly to youth organizations. While we are separate from the athletic department, we’re thrilled to see them doubling down on these same efforts and taking an aggressive, forward-thinking approach.

A great deal of time and work goes into initiatives like this. When concerns are aired publicly without any attempt to communicate directly, it shifts the focus away from solutions and toward unnecessary negativity. These programs work when people engage with them—by participating and by reaching out when something doesn’t go as expected—not by simply complaining online.

I was looking at tickets and it appears UMass is running a special, $5 tickets for winning 5 straight. I like the stragedy, hopefully this will increase the attendance numbers.

Hopefully folks with over 8,000 posts since 2003 will just go to the game without having to be inticed :D

But yes, GREAT on the department to have multiple, segmented promotions going.

Football STH were giving a choice of a free hat or tickets to any game. I already bought reserved tickets so chose the Buffalo game general seating with a parking pass. Point is the athletic department is cross promoting basketball, which I appreciate. Back at the the beginning of the season could get reserved seating just about anywhere. Love the promo of $5. While $62 is some coin for reserve tickets with parking, was happy to support the program, the team and all. GO UMass and fill the building. Time to be loud and proud. Ths should be a good game and grab those $5 seats. A steal !
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

I reached out to the info address on the site and I PM’d you here.
I didn’t hear back.

If I hadn’t gotten the emails about the follow up offer I probably would not have said anything.

I’ve gone to so many UMass games over the years and I’ll continue to go to them. The promotion would have made it ea$ier for me to take some kids to a game on a school night, since we live closer to Springfield than Amherst.

Happy to extend the offer to you personally for the next game. But we do not have an email from you.

Thanks much. Go U!
