Manifest Destiny only carries you so far. You need some 3 and 4 star recruits........ I'd be happy with a bunch of 2 and 3 star recruits for the moment.stevemaz wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 1:22 pm The most interesting thing coach said what that you have to believe that it will happen. Guaranteed (virtually guaranteed) losses?
Getting physically beaten up?
Bad look on program?
Other?
This guy just rants about everything. But I’m happy he’s back.
Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
I am going out on a limb right now and predicting AT LEAST 3-9. These are the wins: Temple (they are pretty bad) and Akron and Kent State. I don't know our MAC scheduling or the "pod" system but we are in MAC East and it is better than the MAC West and CUSA. I don't agree with the WAY Don Brown was let go. Why couldn't he be fired or "retire" after the UConn game? For Christ's sake, show a little class and let him slink out after the UConn game. What's the difference? What is 2 weeks and we were getting JH any way. Don Brown has been around UMass football for decades.

I like what I saw. Now they have to prove it. If there really is say somewhere around 1.5 mil in NIL available to football this year, then I think 6 wins are in play. I mean if it wasn't for some poor decisions in play calling and who to play, this was probably a 4 win team. That was with very little NIL. Maybe some of coach's defensive players from Rutgers would like to make a little more $$ here.

While I was not pleased with the way they let him go either, they said during the press conference that conversations with Harasymiak happened on or around Thanksgiving, which was prior to the final game. Their reasoning for letting Don go early was to get a head start on the search, and it appears that the head start got them their man.ZooMass84 wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 1:45 pm I don't agree with the WAY Don Brown was let go. Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Just watched some of the press conference. I’m curious how the program was funded during our first MAC go-round. Makes sense that going from underfunded independent to well funded conference member could turn the program around to reach a level of respectability. But if we were comparable in resources to our MAC peers the first time, that theory might not be true.

I think we were fairly well under funded vs the other conference schools at the time since there wasn't a good transition plan, and we were only going into this half-heartedly as a football only member. I do not have the data to back that up, I'm sure budget info can be found online... but it is what I recall from those years.

Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
Molnar and staff were the third highest paid MAC staff when UMass joined the conference. The UMass defensive coordinator was the 2nd highest paid coordinator in the MAC behind Chuck Amato, former NC State head coach. They were funded fine at the start; they hired the wrong head coach, who had the players fighting in the snow and ran off players, pissing off people.

I'm thinking we could have wrestled Belichick away from the North Carolina Tar Heels. I heard his girlfriend would prefer to live in Massachusetts! LMFAO
Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
I know we're investing more money in the coaching staff but what are the other investments Bamford was talking about? McGuirk hopefully!
