I'm happy to see it but wow, what a surprise. BTW, he was an assistant at Maine when they pushed us around in Foxborough in 2013. I was at that game and totally disgusted with how much better they were than us.

I'm very happy with this. Of all the candidates I saw discussed, Harasymiak was at the top of my list. I was also at that Fenway game, and I wanted to go after him when we hired Bell. He probably wasn't interested at the time, and rightly so. I think the announced NIL investment and coaching salary pool is a big lift, as well as now having a conference.
I'm very excited and I hope under Harasymiak we can put some of the negativity around this program behind us.

If those staff and NIL money figures are legit then we could be pretty good year 1.

Depends on where it is coming from, I guess. The in-house stuff can't start, technically, until July 1st (as I understand it...). But if they can funnel $ through the MassCo in the meantime, then they should be ok. I'm sure MassCo will speak to that in their upcoming meeting.

Step 1 complete - do not take the easy way out (Montgomery) I am actually pleasantly surprised by this hire. Seems like a solid hire at the very least. I know little about him, but have already heard kudos from multiple sources outside of this fan board.
One comment i saw here was a note about paying more than any other MAC school for the coaching pool. Plus they have a decent guaranteed NIL Pool for the next two years?
These two things are possibly/maybe the first signs of Umass trying to ACT like an FBS program and not just saying the words over and over again. That said, this better not be the end, rather just the very tip of the ice burg. The overall infrastructure is still significantly damaged and cannot be left to fix later.
I would like to know how much input RB had on this. The more say he has the less excited I would be. I am tired of his fingerprints being on any decisions around Umass Athletics. "This time will be better" has run its course.

While the new coach builds the team, UMass needs to get busy and build a quality FBS stadium.

100%, build out bathrooms/concessions and build a FBS/NFL level for the first few seating rows surrounding the field.LS71 wrote: Wed Dec 04, 2024 11:45 am While the new coach builds the team, UMass needs to get busy and build a quality FBS stadium.
Seems like a good hire for us. All I wanted was a guy that was successful at an FCS school or better as a head coach and he checks this box. We'll see how it goes, I'm sure the Springfield College connection between Bamford and Joe originally brought them together.
Re: Joe Harasymiak New Coach!
I will rely on more informed fans than me to say if this is an exciting hire or not. I sure hope it is.
I was struck reading the press release ... and perhaps it's the PR guy in me ... the comments from each spokesperson are so cookie-cutter, they could have easily been recycled from the last (checks notes) many of the head coaches UMass has hired.
You could (successfully) argue ... well, who cares? It's just that I think as UMass football followers we have all been through the wringer and are hoping against hope for a different approach that yields a different outcome. The release at least sounds like more of same.
In any case, Go U.

Where are you seeing a formal press release?
EDIT: Nevermind, seeing the email now.
