Game 2, 2024-25: at West Virginia (11/8)

Post by MikeUMA » Wed Oct 16, 2024 8:55 am

Good news that this will be available on ESPN+. 7 PM start.

Game 2 for both. We both start at home on 11/4: us with New Hampshire, and WVU plays Robert Morris.

In the now 16-team Big 12 Conference, WVU was picked to finish 13th. (Arizona State, who we'll play in late December, was tabbed just ahead at 12th.)

Game 2, 2024-25: West Virginia (11/8)

At West Virginia on Friday who is 1-0 beating Robert Morris on Monday night by 28 points. They are not huge and it looks like they run a 3-4 guard set.

Without seeing the game, you have to assume they run like crazy with a guard heavy rotation? it will be interesting to see if we can keep up and/or slow them down.

We looked really good running the floor in the second half with the following out there...

ShahMu (my new nickname for him), Akil, Jayden, Diggs, and Curry. I'd love to see more from that crew together on the floor in games like WV.

for what its worth (after 1 game) WVA is 74th in Kenpom - again, take it for what its worth but Providence, who handled us pretty easily without a bunch of their top players is 75th - we are 109.

these numbers mean absolutely nothing but since no one really knows anything about anyone yet I figured it might give at least some idea of how they could be.

You are correct about their size. They played essentially 9 guys on Monday. The starters were 6'3, 6'4, 6'7 (220), 6'8 and 6'8 (240). Off the bench they were 6'0, 6'6 6'6 and 6'11 (240). I did not see their game but they were outrebounded by Robert Morris 41-37 and Robert Morris isn't a big team either.

West Virginia played without transfer Jayden Stone (6'4) who averaged 20.8 points last year for Detroit Mercy. He's day to day with an upper body injury.

Either Robert Morris can't shoot or WVA's D is very good. RMU shot 32.4% from the field and 25% from 3.

It's Robert Morris so my guess is they can't really shoot

Press conference with the WV coach, some about the Robert Morris game and some about facing UMass. Personally, I love this guy and the way he answers the questions.

UMass +9.5 - seems kinda high to me - I think it would be a mild upset if we win but Vegas seems to think we don't have a chance.

Also - game not on NESN - ESPN+ only

Fear coming true early.. if Diggins doesn't score we are in trouble. Plus Jayden checks in.. turnover and dumb foul on a 3.. something is wrong there
