Serious question... are they actually better this year, or are they better because we haven't played a Missouri/Georgia-type yet this season?

Where is the progress? Walt Bell in 3 years won 2 FBS games, 1 a MAC team. Don Brown in 3 years has won 2 FBS games, no MAC wins. Am I missing something?

I don't think you're missing anything. There has not been any on the field progress.

Re: Don Brown
Brown should retire at the end of this season for both his health and ours. He's a shell of the Brown from his first stint as head coach and the game has passed his type of defense by. I've watched high school games and seen better prepared and disciplined football than what UMass has done this season. When all he does in his press conferences is babble about stats ("stats are for losers") I know its time for him to move on sadly from UMass.
Re: Don Brown
Dennis- you are absolutely right. The problem is, what are we going to get when he's gone. Another Molnar, another Bell? I have zero faith in UMass hiring a coach who can turn this mess around. We'll probably end up as the low man on the totem pole in the MAC.
Re: Don Brown
The only way they'll find a good coach to turn this mess around is by significantly increasing the position's salary.umiejoe wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:52 pm Dennis- you are absolutely right. Re: Don Brown
Rumor has it some reps from Dancing With the Stars will be on hand Saturday to closely monitor the UMass Head Coach’s reaction after the game, if indeed they are fortunate enough to eke out a win against another hand picked FCS tomato can for Band Day. Evidently the producers viewed some footage of the struggling coach after the team barely escaped defeat to a local FCS punching bag on Homecoming…..although favored by 20 pts, if it wasn’t for a critical holding call late in the game, UMass would and should have lost the game. Rather than express concern about the team’s continuing poor and undisciplined play at the time, Brown was effusive in his praise for the warriors on his team and proceeded to engage in a celebratory dance! ( as if the team’s play wasn’t embarrassing enough, the coach’s post game reaction was worse in my mind) - Maybe he mistook CCSU for Mizzou???
Neither Wagner or CCSU are ranked or receiving votes in FCS, and UMass may not otherwise win any other games this year. Is that cause for effusive praise or bizzare, embarrassing celebratory dancing after a meaningless victory? I don’t think it is, but the DWTS reps will be on hand just in case the coach loses his mind again

Respectfully, this is an absolute bullshit and false comment! Do a little research before posting this crap. Brown is paid more than ($882k, w/bonus $950k) than 10 other MAC schools. He is paid more than the NIU coach, who beat Notre Dame this season. He's paid more than Chesney at JMU. He's paid more than the Buffalo coach who spanked Brown's old ass this season! He's paid more than the EMU coach who spanked his old ass this season! I could go on and on! Brown is paid on the high end for G5 schools. Bamford (and many UMass fans) thought he was getting Don Brown from the FCS days, and he got the coach that Michigan fired for being past his prime.DougW wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 3:50 pmThe only way they'll find a good coach to turn this mess around is by significantly increasing the position's salary.umiejoe wrote: Thu Oct 24, 2024 7:52 pm Dennis- you are absolutely right. Fooled me too and I was dumb enough to donate either 1k or 2k to the DB fund...............It's just sad that 13 seasons into FBS and outside of 2017/2018, we are a pitiful joke. Just have to believe being in a conference will help w/$$$$$ and recruiting.dennisdent wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 10:38 amRespectfully, this is an absolute bullshit and false comment! Team showed some grit. Coaching staff gets the credit for the game plan. Build on it.

It’s the same game plan they’ve used all season. It only worked because the opponent was inferior. Same third quarter defensive issues, too. Lucky that we are more gifted athletically compared to Wagner. 21-7 in the third quarter and a three and out? That game planning/ play calling has cost us every close game this year. The fake FG being stopped was the difference, and it shouldn’t have been.chapter 11 wrote: Sun Oct 27, 2024 9:34 am Team showed some grit. Coaching staff gets the credit for the game plan. Re: Don Brown
Spot on!!! Wagner pulled their starting QB and barley passed all game due injuries and saving itself for a league game next week. The win was the only positive thing to take from the game. This team is crap, sorry but it is. Wagner has 45 scholarship players and no NIL!minutefanjsf wrote: Sun Oct 27, 2024 9:50 amIt’s the same game plan they’ve used all season.
