The last basket was the best basket! :D

Jenkins - You are WAY off base.

Father John Smegal is not only a wonderful catholic priest but a great human being and thinks only of others and has no motive but then to be there for these young men as they go thru all the rigors of being a student athlete. When I was @ UMass I was looking for a Chaplain and Fr Quigley said Fr Smegal would be a terrific Chaplain.
For your info the Boston Celtics had a Chaplain Bill Alexson and he and I are still close friends.
In the heat of battle it’s always comforting to have an unbiased person the players can talk to. Fr Smegal is perfect and get this at the age of 72 he stepped forward and enlisted in the National Guard to serve our country.

I’m also sure that after the heartbreaking loss to GT he supported those players and helped them get in the right mindset to bounce back. Every team could use a Fr John Smegal. I would want him in my corner any day of the week. That is why the players like him - he has never been a fair weather fan - the players have always come first. Go UMass and it’s a little bit better place because of people like him. No hidden agenda just a caring human being who always puts the kids first.

I think we have a really solid core on this roster, basically all the non-freshmen other than Ndjigue.

Looking forward to Siena game. Hoping to get deep into the bench and get some guys hot shooting.

Hey, Frank's doing well in tournaments with us so far.

I haven't followed how Siena is this year but we should crush them.

Merry Christmas my friends.

Go UMass...

The staff wants him there and the players want him there…he is retired now and goes to every practice. The players are very comfortable talking with him. It has no bearing on you so don’t let it bother you.
Agree. Preecher, why does it bother you? Just asking

I love it when nobody has to play more than 27 minutes and 9 guys get 12 minutes or more. Should be an enjoyable plane ride home. A an aside, I never knew that Josh had this much finesse around the basket. He's just plain different than anyone we've had at center in my memory.

The most shocking stat of the tournament is Cohen going 17 of 18 from the free throw line in the last two games.

at 4-3 you were really questioning this game? seriously? I know you are a loyal UMass fan so I am not questioning that - but c'mon - I personally will never read one way or another into a game until under 4 of the first half - and even then I know there is a LONG time to go - but at 4-3??? GEEZ! This post is honestly one of the most ridiculous I have seen and there have been some really crazy ones over the years.

This game started at 10am Hawaii time - which means they probably had a 6am wake up call - maybe even 5:00am- I'd be shocked if these kids ever get up before 10am let alone have to play on national TV at that time - they most likely didn't have a shoot around and if they did it was not a normal game day shoot around - its the 3rd game in 4 days - it's xmas eve - away from all family and friends - and its 4-3 and you are worried?

Agree about the 4-3 mark being a weird point to critique. FWIW, Frank has morning practices with these guys. Early morning.

The way those first few possessions went…shot clock,, not getting back on D…was making me nervous. What can I say….

In the computer rankings, they're third to last (360 KenPom) and second to last (361 NET). We should destroy them, and the starters should be able to get some rest. Then the real basketball begins as we open A10 play with Duquesne and Dayton. Those will be big tests after playing a few cupcakes.

^ Exactly. I want to see 20 minutes from Majok and Foster. We need to know if they will be any help this year. Maybe Mason gets to play? I would also like to see that. Other than that, everyone have a Merry Christmas and we'll see you in Amherst on 12/30.
