Umass does not fit in the MAC. These are all schools centered around Michigan and Ohio. We had a couple years in the MAC and it didn’t seem like a good fit then, why would we consider it again. Also our time in the MAC was not stellar, if I remember correctly, we were in the bottom of the standings.

Outside out Rhody, is there really a fit in the A-10 anymore for UMass? I used to get it when the A-10 was a four bid league but those days are long gone. If we’re gonna play in a 1 bid league, why not go America East with UVM, UNH, Maine, and UML? Would limit travel expenses as there are not many-if any- plane rides there.

We need a home for football. We're FBS not FCS anymore. There is a lot of conference chaos and there is a chance we get into an FBS conference somewhere. Your logic is faulty: why not go to the NEC or Patriot League is what you are proposing.

Maybe, MAYBE, with DK's recruiting ability, it was possible... and that's a stretch because we all know how his coaching ability turned out. Our recruiting level would have dropped significantly going from the A10 to the MAC. Thinking we'd join and automatically be in contention for the Auto Bid in the MAC was, and is, a foolish thought.


Going to the MAC was a singular move to give Football stability, that's it.

So why upgrade to FBS?

Why? You know why.

A) should have been done years ago
B) we had a conference situation that made sense for football and all our other sports/conferences

The Atlantic 10 is irrelevant and becoming more so everyday, the problem is the MAC is doing nothing either. I think we would be just trading one set of problems for another. I don’t know who said it but the Sun Belt has been very proactive and aggressive.

UMass has zero chance for the Sun Belt. CUSA schools left to join it. UMass can’t even get into CUSA, the lowest level league.

So drop football, return to FCS or join the MAC for all sports. Those are the 3 options.

You’re making an assumption that people apply to attend sporting events. That is not the argument being made. Sports are advertisements for universities. Being in FBS has increased the reach of UMass. Just like Flutie’s pass increased BC’s reach, going FBS has for UMass.

prove how fbs has done anything to improve reach? All the research shows after winning how admissions applicants grow.

Obviously it hasn’t if you’ve ever attended a game and see how empty it is. If football was an applicant driver, there would be students at the games. Its all locals, few students.

We are getting to the point where it’s almost logical for the @ConferenceUSA to just add UMass Football & Buffalo for a northern leg as Delaware refuses to read the tea leaves and upgrade to the MAC with UMass for all sports.

At least UMass & UConn for football only.

OK the wife and kids are down the Cape this week so here goes:
No, No (we're not Idaho), I love it!!!! Do we have anything in common with E. Michigan? no, of course not, but beggars can't be choosers. But seriously, I don't know why, but I think we get at least 2 wins and maybe more this season. Don Brown is okay in my book and I'm thinking the defense really comes together. Pick 6's etc.!!!!! The MAC would be settling. With patience, the solution will come to us. We’re seeing shuffling within conferences all the time now.
