Gotta say…FM and his staff have been working hard this off season.

I hope these guys gel as a team and stay together for awhile.

I’m feeling much more positive now than I did when I started the thread about the state of the program!

i think things are going to go better for the team next season. I envision starting 5 becoming Cohen, Hankins-Sanford, Cross, Davis, and Curry

It doesn't happen often, but I have to say, I agree with the mazman here.

The trip to Spain will be a big help to create bonding and team chemistry. I believe that the Travis Ford trip in 2007 was a catalyst for them making the NIT Finals run!

Same here. I think Wildens will start more in conference but against smaller teams OOC we could limit his minutes to 20 per game and keep him healthy for when we need him the most, in conference.

I'm excited about this team. Seems like there is size, depth, a few legit offensive options in Cohen and Cross, potential shooters among the underclassmen. Hope they mesh quickly and stay healthy.

Frank, good luck keeping everyone happy. There just aren't enough minutes to go around unless there are injuries. Of course, it depends on how good some of the newcomers are compared to the returnees and also on Wildens' knees. It's fun to take a stab at this with 4 months to go before we know anything, but here's my wild guess. Minutes are based on position, even though we are in the age of positionless BB.

PG: Curry - 25, 15 split between Keon and Diggins
SG: Davis - 20, 20 split between Worthy and Ndjique
SF: Cross - 30, Davis - 5, the other 5 to either Worthy or Ndjique.
PF: Cohen - 20, Hankins-Sanford - 10, 10 split between Gianni and Mayhugh
C: Wildens - 20, Cohen - 10, 10 split between Majok and Mayhugh

What a crapshoot. I did this for fun and have no idea if it's even close, but at least we're talking about basketball again.

It is hard to predict without seeing everybody play, but keep in mind that martin will likley only play 10 so 11,12,and 13 are on the pine..

A few off-the-cuff observations:

I’d love to be wrong about this, but watching Curry’s videos makes me think he’s going to struggle defensively as a freshman. Because of that I don’t think 25 mpg is going to happen.

I think some of the minutes you have allocated to Worthy / Ndjigue at SG will go to Sool / Keon in 2-PG lineups.

Unlikely that Frank starts two freshmen in the backcourt.

I don’t think Majok sees the floor.

DHS will probably play significantly more than 10mpg, if for no other reason than his defensively abilities next to Cohen and Cross and our (weaker) defensive guards.

^ Good observations. I do think Majok sees the floor when Wildens is taking a breather. None of the other centers can play D. However, I threw this out there to stimulate discussion and I would hope that lots of people have lots of ideas on this. As I said, Frank has a lot of planning to do.

Minutes per game is really a moving target. It changes as the season progresses. For OOC lighter games we'll get to see guys play who may be sitting a lot when the season gets close to conference time. Captain Obvious says that some guys will excel in ways we don't expect. People say that Frank doesn't play freshmen that much but he won't really have a choice next year. I don't think the guys with the most minutes at each position will necessarily be the starters. With that said,

PG - Curry 21.5 min; Diggins 10.6; K Thompson 7.9
SG - Davis 16.2; Diggins 6.8; Worthy 6.1; K Thompson 5.9; Ndjigue 5.0
SF - Cross 23.6; Hankins-Sanford 9.3; G Thompson 5.1; Davis 3.0
PF - Cohen 15.6; Cross 8.2; G Thompson 8.1; Hankins-Sanford 8.1
C - Leveque 22.5; Cohen 9.8; Mayhugh 5.1; Majok 2.6

Well, that was a fun waste of 20.6 minutes, but then I'm not a starter.

I think Worthy plays more than that.. big physical guard that plays downhill and can shoot.. not a ton of tape out there of him but from the little I saw he is good.

Very possibly. It would mean that Diggins and Keon might get even fewer minutes and I've already listed Keon for about 6 fewer minutes than last year. Maybe Keon will get more minutes then I've listed at PG and Curry fewer minutes. According to my predictions, overall minutes play out as:

predicted / last year's minutes
Cross 31.8 / 26.9
Cohen 25.4
Leveque 22.5 / 19.6
Curry 21.5
Davis 19.2
Hankins-Sanford 17.4
Diggins 17.4 / 17.6
K Thompson 13.8 / 20.3
G Thompson 13.2 / 5.1
Worthy 6.1
Mayhugh 5.1
Ndjigue 5.0
Majok 2.6

I don’t think anyone gets north of 28 minutes. FM doesn’t tend to do that. He wants 9-11 guys he can send out there and exhaust every game.

I think Curry as freshman getting 20+ under FM is a big ask.. unless something like last year happens.
