Good. Bamford's failed with the vast majority of outside high profile hires.

This is Going the cheap route. Why not have a search? Just cannot believe this was the best candidate out there.dennisdent wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 2:15 pm Good. Bamford's failed with the vast majority of outside high profile hires.
The giant is still sleeping
Re: Coach Mike Leflar
How do you know they didn't, at least compiling a short list? Would be complete dereliction of duty not to.PreecherJenkins wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 2:42 pm This is Going the cheap route. Why not have a search? Just cannot believe this was the best candidate out there.
And do you know salary details?
Giving the job to him is our best chance of keeping the current good thing going. Mayo left the door open to come back, and keeping Leflar probably increases the chances of retaining others. Granted that's a short term play, but if you go external you're almost certainly going to have more regression.

I'm 99% confident they didn't conduct any sort of search... a short list? Maybe, but only if Mike said "no thanks." But no search, and they certainly didn't pay a firm to initiate anything. This was a bit of a no-brainer situation.
At the very least, the writing was on the wall based on Bamford's statement... that seemed to indicate this was already all set other than paperwork needing to be completed.

Not Sydney Taylor, she has apparently also entered the portal.

Close segue, I know, but let's use the 2023-24 thread for roster discussion.
Re: Coach Mike Leflar
Those closest to the program are high on Leflar. I'll trust their judgment. Give him the support he needs (assistant coaches salary pool, recruiting budget) and it'll work out.

With a staff, you never know who is the one responsible for any elements of a team’s success.Sheck wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 7:38 pm Those closest to the program are high on Leflar. Just hope he wasn’t the guy who said, “Just play 7.”

I recall going to one of these 6 years ago and the guest of honor didn't show up. In all seriousness, I wish Mike the best and hope he can build a roster and maybe hope that Mayo and Taylor change their minds and come back.MikeUMA wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:12 pm Media report that Leflar's formal intro will be tomorrow at 1.

You don’t hire a coach to keep kids. Kids come and go, especially these days. You hire a coach because they show you they can run their own program…successfully.

Re: Coach Mike Leflar
The last part of Bamford's tweet is so oddly worded.
I hope someone from the press directly asks him about the portal departures.

In Part 29 of Ryan Bamford getting played...
Players - "Coach Leflar is the ONLY option, if he's not chosen I'm out"
*2 days later*
Players - "I am announcing my transfer"
