Coach Frank Martin
Re: Coach Frank Martin
Thank you to whatever powers that be that made this happen. URI can have Archie, and MS can enjoy his raise in Olean, UMass got the right guy.

Putting your absurd bias against white males aside for the moment, fyi, Coach Martin is Cuban.TheChamp wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 8:30 am I’m seeing in the major sports, mens and womens, is a bunch of white males. Man, this is a GREAT day for UMass. As seen on Twitter, you have to think this could be the beginning of a "Golden Age" for UMass athletics. Can't believe I'm even typing these words after all those years. GO UMASS!

Re: Coach Frank Martin
I'm thrilled with this hire. He's a no nonsense coach and that will be refreshing. Now get a staff together, recruit and hit the portal. I can't wait for next year.
The announcement may come as early as today with the introductory press conference next week.

Make UMass Basketball Great Again
Re: Coach Frank Martin
I agree. Both schools made good hires. Need the A10 as a whole to make more noise in the non-conference and be a consistent multiple bid league. If GW can land Becker that would also be a good hire.TheInsider wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 9:14 am Im glad for both schools.. this hire is at least on par or better than the Miller hire.. UMass and URI both being good is a good thing.
Give WBB more money.

Welcome aboard Coach Martin. Always loved watching how hard his team played for him back on that run to the Final 4!
Finally a positive development for our program!!

I’m very excited about this hire. He’s experienced and a great recruiter that will bring toughness and identity to our program. My hope is when the Miami job opens in a couple years they hire the assistant down there and don’t come sniffing around.

Agreed, nice to see A10 teams making some moves... certainly need to raise the profile of the conference a bit and these should help.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

We can all breath now. Good hire, I agree Schmidt was a proven X and O guy but if we got him I would have been happy but would have questioned how good recruiting could be. Martin will recruit. Funny we all long for the teams of the 90’s. Since his wife was a student at that time perhaps she does as well. Excited.

Re: Coach Frank Martin
Folks are saying that his style may not work with "kids these days", that he's too tough or too direct. I don't know about that, and maybe it won't work. I've read a lot of interviews, watched a lot of videos and press conferences since his name came up, and I'll use the word passionate to describe his style. He comes off more like a teacher and a father.
If this means we get some tough ass kids that want to work hard, never say die, and want to be coached, not coddled, I'll be very happy with that style. The UMass brand to me, has always been under recruited, under valued kids that play with a chip on their shoulder, and we've been missing that for a while. I'm fired the F up for the future of UMass hoops.

seems like a great hire. Good to calm the nerves, realizing there are still many teams (SMU, GW, etc) looking for a coach.
Re: Coach Frank Martin
I agree wholeheartedly,Juice. Say goodbye to the “soft” identity of UMass bb( “no D…settle for 3”) where teams couldn’t wait to play UMass( where they’d score more points than they would all season) Hopefully, teams will fear coming to Amherst, because they’ll have to battle for forty minutes. That’s what I’m looking forward to…a whole new identity, and the W’s will follow.

Agreed, give me players who still seek that type of coaching. This should light a fire for the returning rotation players. Hopefully Noah is watching some old tape of Jacob Pullen. Martin loves the experienced pg leader. Great hire!nv73 wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 10:20 am I agree wholeheartedly,Juice.
