These theories are getting wackier and wackier but we might as well have something to talk about during the off season.

^ Not so sure the theory that TB wanted more money, Bamford wouldn't pay him more, and so Tre transferred, is far-fetched, since it seems that TB asked for more money last year.

What isn't a theory but fact is Bergeron, who was basically a career HS/Prep hoop coach before arriving at UMass got close to a $100K raise and a 2 year extension after his first season which I believe was his first season ever coaching college hoops. That in itself should raises a lot of questions. What did he do in year one with the team that warranted an almost $100K raise and why was he fired less than a year later?

I think its pretty apparent, as Fenway indicated, that Bergeron was using the Mitchell card to enhance his salary and/or position. Last year they gave him what he wanted - this year, evidently, not. If most of the other players stay it will show how limited his reach was.

Wackier, and not accurate. TB was paid $190,000 first year, next two years were to be around $465,000 - $232,500/year. Getting a raise for helping improve things isn't that strange, and it wasn't a $100,000/year bump.

Not wackier. Maybe the numbers are what you indicated, but clear that Bergeron was using his connection to Mitchell to benefit himself. Umass will be better off without Bergeron.

USC hired Evan Mobley's dad as an Assistant and they're in the Sweet 16. Hiring assistants with a close relationship to top prospects is a common practice, and has worked out incredibly well for other programs.

You can say Bergeron seemingly overplayed his hand, but I for one don't think having a Western Mass native with strong recruiting pedigree on the staff is a bad thing for the program.

okay what warranted a bump of $42,500 for an assistant coach of a team that was an 8/9 seed in the a10?

Not picking any sides here whatsoever, but that bump could have been part of the original deal, or tied in to signing the next class of recruits, or for team improvement goals, who knows.

Or it could have been leverage with Tre.

Probably will never know, but if we can keep building on what was started and sign the right players moving forward, we'll be in a better place than we were 2 yrs ago. Good foundation in place

I'm just going by what is on the public records for the state of Massachusetts regarding his salary. All state employee salary are public records. Which indicates his salary as:

2019: $132,991.04
2020: 219,073.04 (plus an additional $32K in other pay) which might be the car allowance he had in the extension.

And it couldn't have been part of the original deal because he had a one year contract then signed a two-year extension.

JoleonLescottsHair wrote: Mon Mar 15, 2021 3:56 pm I am sad because this could potentially mean other departures and another rough year, but TB and Tre can go fucking drop dead as far as I am concerned. Carl Pierre, Loe Roe, guys like that are the UMass greats. Tre is just another free agent in my book. Someone mentioned his contribution to UMass in another post. Horse shit. He didn’t lead the program to any glory in his 1.5 years all while getting himself a nice free ride and audition for his next stop. No Tre Mitchell jersey in our rafters. And, TB and his twitter grievance bride can just go about their little duplicity stroll and gravy train fest. People like that will hopefully eventually get what’s due.

Ryan Bamford or Matt McCall might deserve to get canned for any number of reasons, but they are 1000% right not to put the school at the mercy of some 20 year old and his fuckhead manager. I don’t give a shit how good a player he might be or what it means to the team’s prospects. You DO NOT run a department or institution like that. Anyone who thinks otherwise has been infected by the rot of AAU culture and and transfer portal bullshit.

Go Colgate, or any team out there with a group of 4 year players on its roster.
Do you really think that Tre Mitchell has an equal chance of being a first round pick if he sticks around here vs plays in the Big 10 or ACC? I don't, so how could I possibly blame him for acting in his own self interest.
I wonder if TM knows how many players who have transferred OUT of UM have ever played in the NBA? Anyone else have an idea?.....

That would be "Jet fueled" AJ Wynder . I think he was the guy who was knifed on campus prior to his freshman season.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.
