Re: Game 12 (2018-19): Princeton
So you're saying we can drop to D2 football and keep our other sports D1???

Re: Game 12 (2018-19): Princeton
^No. IIRC you can play up in one sport for men and one sport for women, as long as they aren’t basketball or football.
You can’t play down. Don’t remember all the details but there aren’t enough D2 hockey teams anymore so I think they all play what are officially exhibition games against D3 schools in addition to games against each other. The D2 schools aren’t eligible for the D3 tournament. That’s a big reason why so many D2 schools play up in hockey.

Correct. Although prior to 1978 you were able to do so. For example, UMass played DI basketball and DII football. The I-A and I-AA subdivisions were created in '78 to prevent this exact arrangement. It also introduced I-A minimum requirements (such as a 30k seat stadium) that would lead to the notable downgrade of the Ivy League.jjmc85 wrote: Tue Nov 27, 2018 12:14 pm ^No. IIRC you can play up in one sport for men and one sport for women, as long as they aren’t basketball or football.
