Count me as one of the happy 3049!! :) :) :D :)

Great game last night against a good Princeton team (#18).

UMass has been criticized (?) by some for playing a weak schedule, and for being out shot in games they'd won (e.g., the two Providence games). Well last night they out shot Princeton, 43 to 25, and dominated for most of the game.

This is a fun team to watch. They are very young (a lot of freshmen and sophomores), and there is quit in them. Yes, they are going to lose some games this season, but they may win (or least be in the top) of Hockey East too! Watching Kale Makar (had a great break-away goal last night) and Mario Ferraro is worth the price of admission.

^ currently 8th after Princeton - the idea that we have played a soft schedule is crap by some that can't handle the fact that UMass is winning.

I haven't followed hockey as close as others have on here, but I really like Carvel. He's a pretty likeable, straight forward guy who really sounds like a great coach. To do what he's done in such a short time, and recruit like he has is pretty remarkable. I haven't enjoyed watching UMASS hockey as much since that Umass/Maine HE final a while back

I’ll split the difference. Just checked USCHO and it has our SOS at 7th toughest.

Great win! Fun game and fun team to watch. Should have never gone to OT. They dominated Princeton, actually. They're getting better with each game.
Gazette had a short "staff" article buried on the inside of the sports section in today's paper. Is anybody working for the local paper paying attention. WTF?!

To be honest, the Collegian's articles (by Mollie Walker, Ryan Ames and Liam Flaherty) have the best in-depth coverage of the team. The Gazette's coverage by Josh Walfish has been OK this season (I mean, he's no Matt Vatour :D ), so I'm guessing the holiday affected things. The sad thing is the Springfield Republican only started covering the team after the Providence game with bare bones stats or "staff" reports. Before that, there were no articles after the playoffs in March.

I'm more surprised by the lack of story in the Herald.

Maybe they have been following the top 4 and thought it was D3!

We get it. D1 hockey has a lot of non traditional powers. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Isn't it one of the few sports (I think lacrosse is the only other) that can be played at the DI level by a non-D1 institution?

^ DII Lock Haven plays DI field hockey in the A-10.

Bellarmine - whoever they might be - plays DI lax.

Good catch. Field hockey too.

Looks like other sports are golf (ie DII Augusta), bowling (ie DII Caldwell), rowing (ie DIII MIT), rifle (ie DII North Georgia), and baseball (ie DII Dallas Baptist).
