Yeah practice starts tomorrow. I just hope we make it out of camp without any significant injuries. We can’t afford any disasters this year.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)

Just sent out to Whip the top players in NC/SC according to the Charlotte paper. Maybe they can get one from this area.

So no one here cares that our frosh punter booted one 98 yards this weekend??

I know, I know - took his time kicking, no returner, etc. But....

I don't care how far he kicks it if he can "coffin corner" it inside the 10 or 5 every time.....

^ To be a great punter, you need both skills. If we're backed up to our own 10 you want a guy who can boom it. For other circumstances, you need the coffin corner kick. Maybe that one can be taught and practiced. The former is a gift.

Remember some time ago we had a coach that had big red X's marked on the wall on the back of the stadium for the punters to aim for for the coffin corner kicks. Don't know if they are still there.

May be a stupid question but, is the distance of a punt measured from line of scrimmage or where it is actually kicked from? If line of scrimmage, it would have to be from just inside 2 yd line to go 98 yds. Punter would be in a short drop back in endzone, making it even more impressive. 98 yds is Impressive either way, but from a tight endzone is tough

Its not a stupid question at all Floyd. You're correct its impressive and distance of a punt is measured from LOS.

So was there a lot of roll or was it 98 yards mostly in the air?
Raise the bar, do the minimum.

I didn't see the play but there is a difference between "booting it 98 yards" and having a 98 yard punt, which is almost impossible. Since punts are measured from the line of scrimmage, the LOS would have to be our 1 and it would have to be downed at the other team's 1. There are many more opportunities to boot one 98 yards. Either way, it's an awesome kick.

Just watched the video. It was indeed a 98 yard punt from the line of scrimmage. In real life, he booted the ball about 75 yards which is mighty fine. If it were fair caught at the 30 it would have been a legit 69 yard punt. I'll take those all day.

That was an awesome punt. Now he needs to work on his footwork as his left heel is on the line as he received the snap and the result of that punt would have been a safety.

....although, upon further review, if the white line is the end line, then he is fine and you are free to yell at me for missing the call.

Love that we have another legitimate punter, but I NEED to figure out how steady our kicking game is going to be this year. I believe we genuinely could have gone above .500 last year if we had a half decent kicker. I know our Greek God punter can stroke 'em, at least that's what I gathered from Twitter. Is he the one that will be taking our kicks this year?
