We still don't know the real story. As easy as it is to hate the guy right now, I'll wait until we learn what really happened (which I doubt we'll ever find out).

^ It was a big culture shock for him and his family coming from South Carolina to Amherst. Whatever the driving factor was (wife, kids, weather etc...) you're right, we will likely never know. Calling PK unfit to be a parent is literally backwards thinking. The guy left over $500K per year on the table BECAUSE of his wife and kids.

I'm ready to forget about Pat Kelsey forever. Whatever his reasons it burned us, but no mistake it's costing him literally millions if he stays at Winthrop. Peace out Pat.

In my eyes, the Kelsey fiasco is as much on Bamford as on Kelsey. As Bamford now clearly understands, Kelsey and his family should have come up here before any public announcement was planned. That's on Bamford. I'm sure that he learned his lesson, and probably every other AD in the country got that lesson just from watching. As for Kelsey, he was impulsive and should known better, too. He should have known that he needed to get up here with his family first. I think the two of them really hit it off and just got carried away down in Atlanta. I don't know how much of a setback it will turn out to be for UMass. Just as much or more for Kelsey, I would say. I like that our new guy has some northeast family. That obviously helps.

^ couldn't disagree more that "the Kelsey fiasco is as much on Bamford as on Kelsey". It seems to me that your opinion is based on hindsight and probably on assumptions about what actually happened (since none of us really knows what actually happened). That's like blaming the Jets GM (whose name escapes me) who hired Belichick only for Belichick to resign 24 hours later. It's a dick move and it's all on Kelsey.

Agreed. Kelsey is the one who failed here, not RB. If the guy tells RB "hey, I'm good with taking the job even though I've only been up there on a couple of trips when I played and coached with X, but I liked it enough", you take him at his word, especially when he is signing a contract/MoU with a clear $1million buyout clause.

I'll withhold judgement on Kelsey until we know the true reason he decided this wasn't the best fit (though we probably will never know). Some people on here have alluded to potential anxiety/depression that Kelsey may suffer from. If that's the case everyone on here needs to get a grip. That shit is real, and it can be incredibly debilitating. I'm not absolving him of all blame because he should have at least visited the campus before accepting the position, especially if he suffers from anxiety.

^^^^^ Others also implied that Mrs. Kelsey may have given her hubby an ultimatum. What's fact? What's fiction? Your guess is as good as mine.
