Pete Abraham is a pickle that is all.

FYI- Coach Cal going on 98.5 with Beetle and Zo at 12:50. Edit: Mdog had this before me, didn't read the whole thread before posting.

Cal told Beetle he would be open to playing UMass in Boston if Derek needed it. He only plays his players and assistants if it would benefit that program.

I can't believe I listened to this! Kim Carrigan actually compared the reasons for why the Final Four was vacated to what happened at Penn State. I've never heard of Kim Carrigan before, but how the hell does someone like this have a job?

The amount of misinformation about Calipari and UMass still astounds me, 20 years later. And it just proves how the media can control public opinion. In the 9 minute snippet above, they talked about:

Recruiting violations - not sure where that one comes from, because there weren't any

Academics not mattering at UMass - pay no attention to graduation rates, and mock the fact that UMass accepts partial or non-qualifiers.

"Camby accepted cash and hookers while at UMass" - while that statement in itself is true, it's never clarified with "the gifts were accepted from a prospective NBA agent", its just assumed the cash and hookers came from within the program.

The best part for me was Meterparel saying "I'm a BC guy..." at the end of that segment. OF COURSE you're a BC guy, just like your scumbag colleagues at the Boston Globe. Meanwhile, they pretty much blow off any opinion Matty V has on the subject by saying "let me share more background on this, that's his beat and I get that".

Meanwhile, you never hear anything negative about Calhoun from the Globe, because he's a Boston guy, one of us, and not some slick Italian trying to sell us snake oil

They continue to take the alleged Calipari "...if they don't qualify we still want them." out of context. As you stated that has to do with the partial qualifier situation and not the school sneaking academic nonqualifiers onto the roster. But they lump that quote in with talking about the three players who were allegedly on academic probation to make the statement seem more nefarious in nature.

If anyone is debating going tonight, go to the game. You may regret it if you don't. Tickets are only $15 and it's a good family atmosphere.

You realize the people on this board are the ones who are already going to the games? What might I regret by not going to the game tonight?

Is the ceremony at half time or before the game?

My guess would be halftime.

One point on Coach Cal. I was a student 1980-84. A lot of people are saying the UMass program was in the toilet when Cal took over in 88. However look back to when Tom McLaughlin took over in the Fall of 1981. UMass had lost 33 consecutive conference games when McLaughlin took the helm. That is 0-33 in conference the previous 3 campaigns. That is ZERO wins in league. The next 2 seasons McLaughlin went 7-21 in conference. A VAST improvement. He also got a new scoreboard for the Cage and got the students to come back to the games. As a matter of fact since McLaughlin left in the Spring of 1983 UMass has had only 1 season where we didnt have double digit wins in a season. I saw Gerlufsen eating at Charlies Tavern the day he took over in 1983. He went 33-57 in conference play before Cal came in. My point being that McLaughlin really took the program out of the porcelain and inherited a more dire circumstance than Cal did. When Cal came in at least there were some embers burning and he took it all the way to the moon.

He also got a new scoreboard for the Cage
The scoreboard had an electrical malfunction and went up in smoke during the game
