Hopefully Rocks will weigh in, but I believe our hockey training facilities are below average in Hockey East.
We have terrible ice conditions compared to others. No money is spent to correct the compressor issues.

I will tell you that people inside UMass and from other programs have told me that UMass' training facilities for hockey are below average compared to the rest of Hockey East. And I was told that even before Notre Dame joined the league and prior to Providence renovating their arena.

However, Micheletto has also said he's happy with our facilities, so until he says otherwise we'll have to take him at his word.

The ice conditions at the Mullins are legendary and I don't think I have to expand upon that. Although I think it actually gave the team an advantage on Saturday when Michigan State's compressor broke down. Our guys are experienced in playing on slush and got the win.

Regarding McCutcheon, shouldn't it just come down to wins? Beyond men's hoops, field hockey, and women's lax it seems like the other programs are all mired in multi-year slumps. It's disappointing to see and I think the school is capable of more.

Just think of it like the dead spots in the parquet at the old Garden.
Raise the bar, do the minimum.

I'd like an expanded version of your argument against McCutcheon but the ice is not his fault. I don't have any idea why some dual-use venues work and some don't but the Mullins is one that doesn't. So, by the way, is the TD Garden and the PNC Arena down here in Raleigh.

The venue would work if the department spent money on another compressor.

^ that's the obvious answer but if it is the answer then why is the ice so bad at TD Banknorth and the PNC Center? It's not like the Bruins and Canes can't afford another compressor.

IIRC They replaced the compressors in the Bill 2 summers ago.
Please think before you type.

My guess is that the "dad" in the Athletic Dept doesn't want people messing with the thermostat.. Just turn the A/C on a little colder guys!!

This is why I suspect there is a design flaw. If the solution was simple then the Bruins and Hurricanes would have solved it long ago.

After talking to an old friend who ran the zamboni at Ristucia, he says the bad ice in venues is frequently due to humidity control in the building and not to compressors.

My issues with the AD are very minor right now. Definitely not enough for me to say he should be fired.
Looking forward to the 2022 UMass Football Season (Oh boy, just jinxed that one)

Michigan AD Dave Brandon is resigning.. As a Michigan fan I am embarrassed for the entire athletic department for the circus that became.

In My Humble Opinion the Athletic Director has done a mediocre job. Nothing to write home about BUT he is in a very very difficult position. There are not many schools that play in as many different division 1 conferences as UMass, this helps give each team the ability to play against the best competition available to them in their sport.

Ohhh by the way UMass is now playing at the highest level of Football, something many fans have wanted for a long long time. (I'm surprised/disappointed Bob wasn't able to make that happen in the 90's when Uconn made the move) Now putting together an independent schedule which isn't going to be easy. That grade right now seems incomplete but seems like it could be worse.

I am disappointed the school has cut sports, one of the great claims to fame for the department was how many different sports were supported and how many students had the opportunity to be athletes. Don't recall if this was done during the Grey Wolves tenure but still leaves a very bat taste in my mouth.

If there is going to be a discussion about changing AD's, without a major scandal/problem perhaps it is a good idea to talk about potential replacements. Is there an assistant AD within a major organization with ties to UMass that would have interest? Is there an AD at a smaller school with the passion to bring the department back to prominence? (Thorr)
UConn girls are........................... Huskies!!
