Not sure I'm taking Swampy's post the right way, but as one of the posters who thinks Vinson should have had a better career here at UMass, I guess I'm one of the "experts" he alluded to. Guess we deserve that remark, having a different opinion and all.

Basketball is now a 12-month program. Is it beyond hope that they could accumulate enough talent, put it in the proper offense and couple it with enough summer and off-season practice that a team could shoot better than .434?!? Same % the past two years (highest in Kellogg era)

Some of those old YC teams would be a step up from recent schedules.

^ TruBlu - Agreed on what's been going on lately, but 12 months or 15 months a year, 5 guys above 50% probably ain't goin' to happen.

If the scenario that MullinsManiac posted today in the football forum comes about, we may be back to the YanCon schedule soon.

I'm definitely not ready to put UMass ahead of either VCU or St. Louis in the preseason A10 power rankings, but I honestly think we should be ahead of La Salle.

La Salle only lost Galloway from a Sweet 16 team and have a ton of great pieces left including what is probably the A10's best PG in Tyreek Duren. So I think us being behind them in predictions is absolutely fair.

Really - Duren over Chaz? Come on now.

That said, I do see 1 and 2 as being accurate and 3 and 4 could be reversed, but find it interesting that he doesn't seem to even imply the UMass could win the A-10.

Yes they 'only' lost Galloway, but he was their best player and led the team in points, assists, and steals, and was third on the team in rebounds. They also beat a 13, 4, then 12 seed to get to the sweet 16. Obviously a sweet 16 is a huge accomplishment but I'm not overly impressed with that run, and don't necessarily think it merits a high power ranking the following season. And Duren as 'probably' the best PG in the A10? I can think of a couple that are better for sure, one of which resides in Amherst.

Duren is really good, and I think they should be ahead of us based on their run last year. I think the second tier is UMass and Lasalle, with a drop off after that.

Not saying I agree or disagree with the comment of Duren being better than Chaz but the arguement can be made.

Duren averaged just under a point a game less and was significantly behind in assists per game, but had 1.5 LESS turnovers per game while shooting .455 FG% and .385% 3FG% to Chaz's .433% and .333%.

Again I'm not saying I agree with the statement, but for a player who is not the team's go to guy and led his team to a sweet 16, I don't think Chaz blows him out of the water by any means.

If UMASS had made the dance instead of Lasalle and made that run I imagine you would have been very impressed.
