Knowing how many UConn fans are also Yankee fans, this does make me smile. Not sure, if I like the idea of Calhoun throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park, But..........I guess he deserves to be honored at the New England sports alter, as was Mark Whipple after the Football team won the national championship.

He's turned them down before too. In 1999 he turned them down after they won it that year. He also turned down the Knicks this year for some ceremony as he said he is loyal to the Celtics. When it comes down to it he is a fan like we are and you can't change that passion.RTL wrote:Far be it from me to have anything nice to say about Jim Calhoun, however, according to ESPN; The Boss, George Steinbrener, asked Calhoun to throw out the first pitch at un upcoming Yankee Game and Calhoun flatly turned him down saying that UConn was part of Red Sox country. He will throw out the first pitch on Monday at Fenway Park!

Like I posted in the thread in General Discussion...
The Red Sox and UConn...for me, it doesn't get any worse than that...what an unholy alliance.
Why don't they just rename the the Sox...they can be the New England Red Sox so Calhoun's appearance fits. At least the BOSTON Red Sox honored Whipple as the coach of the Uninversity of MASSACHUSETTS football team.
Yet another reason for me to continue to be a Yankee fan

i love the whole 1918 thing... it is such a joke... its the only thing that any yankee fan can use against the red sox
of course, the typical response to this will be "well all red sox fans have is 'yankees suck'"
but the difference is that we aren't the only fans who chant that and feel that
oh well, fighting with a yankee fan is like fighting with an ape... such a waste of time
