Good luck to Cal. He's earned this opportunity. 8 years at UMASS, 9 at Memphis and taken both programs to the top echelon. As much as I wish he were still here. he hasn't forgotten his roots at UMASS. I would not be surprised to see Kentucky added on to the schedule within the next two years.

GO UMASS!

The stuff going on today was hilarious... between the normal news reports, editorials, his daughter's status updates on Facebook, and the crazy Memphis news coverage, it made for a great day of coverage.

As I said before, it will be hard to root for him at Kentucky, BUT I do support him 100% and wish him the best. I hope he can get his Championship, help restore their franchise, and ride into the sunset as one of the greatest coaches the NCAA has ever seen.

Oh, and retire with a good job here at UMASS! :)

I remember every time Cal was on TV while at Memphis I would listen closely because he would always find a way to put in a plug for UMass. now that he's the "it" coach, i think we're going to hear a lot more talk about UMass in the national sports media. the only thing i worry about is that people are probably still going to misunderstand the Camby situation in 1996

if (and its obviously pure speculation at this point) memphis does decide to buy us out of the boston game, there's a part of me that believes Calipari wont leave DK hanging like that. maybe, just maybe, he might schedule a "makeup" game in boston for us

but if memphis does follow through with their commitment, and transfers/recruits follow Calipari, then UMass might actually have a puncher's chance to win the game

damn this cockblocked us out of a game against probably the top ranked team in the nation with cal at the helm next year. would have been able to get another 3000+ students to bus down to watch this, drawing interest in the team early in the season.
on the bright side, well, maybe well see kentucky at the garden sometime in the near future, but probably after my college days.

heh. they had it as a breaker on ESPN. Unless the story itself was updated along the way...which it appears to be.

This is probably the pinnacle of his career.

I'm happy for Cal. It was an offer he had to accept. Frankly I would have been dissapointed if he had not.

Hopefully if we get to play THIS Kentucky coach, he wont buy out of the contract like Gillespie did...

Best part of the Dobrow story?

I feel good for Cal, but I also can't help but feel a little bad for the Memphis fans. Cal left Umass over a decade ago, and the program still has not recovered, and may not recover anytime soon, who knows. Memphis is staring down the same situation. I wonder if this fate awaits Uconn one day when Calhoun finally retires. The one thing fans of Uconn can definately say, is that there coach has stuck around for the long haul. Still, that is an even bigger fluke than Cal at Umass. Once he leaves, it will likely never be the same either.

The one thing we have learned here is to REALLY enjoy things when everything is clicking. Once it is over, it could really be 15-20 years before it happens again, if ever. Similarly with the New England Patriots. Enjoy them now, once BB leaves/retires, the party might be over for a long time.
