UConn-Syracuse

Post by Feato » Fri Mar 13, 2009 5:25 am

Move it if you want.

#1 UConn lost :)

#2. What. a. game. I don't care, any FAN had to have been eating this one up!

I'm still shaking my head after watching the SC highlights. 6 OT's!!!!

Best game ever...maybe not the longest. But best game ever.

Big East is overrated. Alot of parity, but overrated. And, these teams will be beat up going into the tournament. I think Pac-10 and Big-10 are underrated this year. If they give the Big East 3 #1 seeds, it will be a travesty.

I went to bed after they waved off the Dievendorf (sp?) 3 to go to the first OT. They were correct in doing so, the ball was still on his fingers at 0.0.

I set the DVR to go 'til 1am. Plenty of time I thought. Wrong.

I'm not a fan of either team, but the lesser of two evils prevailed. :P

I was just about to go to bed early last night but saw there was only a few minutes left in a close game so I decided to watch the end. 2 hours and 6 OT's later Cuse wins a great game. Not the best game ever but a great game. Great effort by all of the players. I think one Cuse player played over 60 minutes.

One amazing thing was Cuse NEVER had the lead in the first five OT's.
Another odd fact in the fifth OT some Cuse walk-on got a big/important rebound. It was his first rebound of the season.

Cuse is going to have a hard time winning tonights game.

I agree with Feato's #2. I don't like UConn and don't watch their games.
This is the first time I have seen UCOnn this season. But as a basketball fan it was a great game to watch.

Overrated? Maybe. But entertaining? Most definitely.

Reading some of the recaps, I didn't realize this:
...Huskies have now lost five in a row in this tournament, their last victory coming in the 2005 opener against Georgetown.
sled dogs also killed themselves by going 24-42 at the stripe. Cuse on the other hand went 40-51.

Special Plans went 2-13 from the floor.

Syracuse has eliminated UConn from 4 of the last 5 Big East tourneys.

Interesting...I generally can't stand Syracuse, but this little tid-bit might change my tune a little!

First, one of the best hoops games ive ever seen, if not the best. should be the ESPY winner for game of the year.

Second, whoever said the Big East is overrated is on crack. Oversaturated with too many teams? Maybe. But it is the best conference in the country and probably the best of all time when you consider the heavyweights that battle at the top.

Third, as Nale pointed out, just amazing that Syracuse never led in the entire overtime until its final lead. that team overcame so much between the letdown of the Devendorf shot being called off to having to make so many comebacks to blowing so many chippys that would have won the game. just amazing...and then to blow them out.

With 5 teams that used to be conference-mates of UMass, it still bothers me that UMass is not in that league.

Puke-on - Yankee Conference
Pitt - Eastern 8
Villanova - Eastern 8
West Virginia - Eastern 8
Rutgers - Eastern 8

Syracuse and Providence have long histories as UMass opponents. To a lesser extent, there are histories with Louisville and Marquette.

Notre Dame, Louisville, DePaul, USF, Cincinnai and Marquette being considered eastern teams is ridiculous, just as ridiculous as Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis and Charlotte being considered Atlantic teams.

I know it's a $$ thing, but I digress...

bunch of interesting stats from this game:

-Johnny Flynn played 67 minutes; Devendorf and AJ Price 61
-6 players had double-doubles
-8 players fouled out of the game; 5 others had 4 fouls
-Andy Rautins and Craig Austrie played 49 and 45 minutes - off the bench
-the two team combined to take 209 field goal attempts, and 93 FT attempts
-Justin Thomas, who had played 18 minutes in the regular season, played the final 7 minutes

arrived at the pub with 5 minutes in regulation. Several hours later was being asked to leave right after the 5th OT. The Umass bball team was there cheering along, you could see it on there faces that they wish they were still playing. A few of them were saying how next years the year, that were going top 25.

The NCAA tourney will tell the story..Big East gets all the exposure, but do they have the best basketball? We will see. I think the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-10 will show their strength over the Big East. Time will tell. Theres no doubt the Big East is the DEEPEST conference. Not necessarily the best at the top.
